Keeping Your Breastmilk Fresh and Organized

While I don’t give Kaylee a bottle every day, I do like to keep some breastmilk frozen “just in case.” I have traditionally used Medela Pump & Save Bags marked with a sharpie so I know how much is in the bag and when I collected it.

However, it was always a hassle to try and keep the little bags organized in the freezer. I had to sort through each bag to find the oldest one, then put them all back neatly in the freezer. What a pain.

Then I was introduced to the Medela Breastmilk Labeling & Storage System—a new solution to this problem. The Breastmilk Labeling & Storage System is an all-in-one system that helps you identify the freshest breastmilk to avoid waste. It makes it easier to protect, organize and locate your breastmilk in the fridge or freezer.

I love that’s compatible with both the Medela breastmilk bottles as well as the Medela Pump & Save Bags (I have a ton of both). The system comes with a tray (which holds up to 6 bottles), two 5 oz. bottles and two labeling lids.

The twist-and-lock labeling lids are compatible with all Medela polypropylene breastmilk bottles, which is great, but I do wish the system came with more than 2 of the labeling lids. You can purchase them separately in a pack of 6 though, which is what I may do.

If you go through a lot of pumped breastmilk you’ll like the lids because they have “in” and “out” arrows to help you identify which breastmilk bottle is “next in line” for a feeding. So you won’t have to sort through all of the breastmilk to find which bottle to use next.

You can also select a day of the week and time of day (a.m., p.m. or midday) on the lids to help you track when breastmilk was pumped, or designate a feed by day and time if your child is in daycare or left with another caregiver.

Overall, I think the Medela Breastmilk Labeling & Storage System is a great way to help keep your breastmilk organized.

Winning this would be so helpful for our family. My husband and I are both full-time nursing students. We have a 4 year-old, almost 3 year-old, and a 7 week old and we do not use day care. We are home with our kids most of the time, and I bring our 7 week old to lectures with me. But I have two labs a week and my mother-in-law takes all three kids on those days. Having an organized labeling system for our breastmilk would be a tremendous help in our busy lives to make our family better.

I’d like to win this to give as a gift in an upcoming baby shower. I exclusively pumped for 16 months and know the challenges of keeping the breast milk organized and stock rotated.

I would love to have this labeling system because I also make my own baby food, and freezer space is at a minimum. This would help keep everything in place, rather than on top of everything else. I’d be able to use the oldest milk first, rather than what’s on top.

I want to win this because I am expecting a baby in 4 weeks and will be breastfeeding. I breastfed my first 2 babies but I didn’t really pump that much. This time I will be working part time so I will need to pump more.

I want to win this because I have just successfully started breastfeeding… I am a month in :)… and have gotten past those dreaded first two weeks where I thought I’d quit. But I didn’t and I am going strong. I didn’t succeed with my first two but i was DETERMINED this time. I pump and do one bottle a day to get her ready for when I go back to work but will continue to use the breast also. This system will help daddy and me get the right flow of bottle order so there is no confusion or wasted milk. Thanks Good Luck to all the Moms! Jessica

I am due with my first child in August and plan to breastfeed. I would love to win the Medela Breastfeeding Labeling & Storage system because, from everything I’ve heard, the first few months with a new baby can be hectic. This would be a great tool to help organize and simplify one aspect of new motherhood.
