One of the more popular diet fads in recent years has been juicing. Since this is an often controversial diet, I have gathered some tips to share with you how you can safely use juicing to lose weight. There are extremes with any dietary restriction or regimen, so I am going to show you the benefits of juicing in a safe manner.
How To Safely Use Juicing To Lose Weight
As with any change in diet, it is wise to consult your physician prior to beginning. Various health conditions may mean this is not a wise decision for you. Before starting a juicing regimen for weight loss, check with your physician.
Check your regular medications for contraindications.
There are some medications that have side effects related to eating specific fruits. Grapefruit is a popular addition to many juicing regimens, and is often a fruit that should be avoided when taking some medications.
Before you begin juicing to lose weight, check all of your regular prescriptions and supplements to make sure they are safe to take with the foods you include in your juices.
Use a healthy mix of vegetables along with fruits for sweetening.
Juicing typically involves a mix of fruits and vegetables. However, many will find the vegetables unsavory, so they tend to reach for more fruit-based juices.
The problem is that fruit does contain more sugar and, while you may see immediate weight loss, you are more likely to see that weight loss slowing when you are ingesting more fruit than vegetables. Use 3 parts vegetable to 1 part fruit to keep your ratio better for losing weight.
Mix and match vegetables with fruits to find a flavor you like. There are multiple juicing recipes out there to consider, but I recommend choosing a fruit that adds a lot of flavor. Things like pineapple and berries are favorites since they pack a lot of flavor in a small amount.
Use juicing to replace only one meal per day.
It is difficult to maintain a long-term regimen of juicing to lose weight as a replacement for all meals each day. While it may be nice to do this on a rare occasion for 1-2 days, it can create weakness and stomach upset.
Your body is used to having roughage, and you will often find that drinking only juice has a laxative effect. This is, actually, one of the reasons juicing can be popular for rapid weight loss. When your body is evacuating that quickly, you will lose weight.
Instead, replace one meal per day with a juice full of healthy vegetables and limited fruits. Green juice blends are popular and great for adding antioxidants to your diet without the bulk.
Use a quality juicer.

Don’t stop drinking water.
Even though you may think you are drinking a ton while drinking juices, you still need to have plenty of water. Continue your healthy habits of drinking 6-8 glasses of water each day right alongside your juices.
While I wouldn’t recommend long-term juicing to replace all of your meals, it can be a great delicious way to get healthier. You can safely use juicing to lose weight by replacing one meal a day and choosing the right ingredients for your juice.
