Healing Trauma Naturally with Cora Rennie

All of have experienced trauma in our lives in some way, at some time. Whether that trauma was physical, mental or emotional – all forms of trauma can affect us.

I never really thought through how deeply traumatic experiences can shape your life before reading the Touching Trauma, Healing from Life’s Deepest Wounds e-book from Cora Rennie.

Here’s a brief list of experiences that can cause trauma:

  • Death
  • Separation
  • Divorce or loss of relationship
  • Move
  • Career
  • Natural disaster
  • Accident
  • Act of Violence, Assault, Combat or War
  • Abuse – of any kind, physical, sexual, verbal, or neglect
  • Humiliating or deeply disappointing experiences
  • Surgery
  • Diagnosis Birth

Whether you’re aware of the effects of any of these experiences may be having on your life, you could be experiencing trauma you need to heal yourself from.

Some common trauma related symptoms include:

  • Flashbacks & ‘bad’ memories replaying in the mind OR repression of memories and inability to remember
  • Nightmares, night sweats, and insomnia OR exhausted, tired and sleeping all the time
  • Heightened agitation and emotions OR numbness, not feeling anything
  • Intense physical reactions to reminders/associated triggers of the event (e.g. pounding heart, rapid breathing, nausea, muscle tension, sweating)

  • Denial as in ‘can’t believe this happened’ or denying it’s impact/importance such as ‘well, it wasn’t as bad as what happened to her’

  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Trouble functioning at home or work

  • Low self-esteem
  • Depression, loss of interest in activities/life in general and possibly suicidal thoughts/feelings
  • Sense of a limited future
