My husband has broken most of the bones in his body, and he warned me it would hurt for a long time. But you never know until you know, do you?
So I’ve been looking at natural remedies for chronic pain management to help me with the pain I’m currently dealing with. I want to feel good enough to hike a lot this year, so I’m working to improve my pain levels.

7 Natural Remedies for Chronic Pain Management
1. Eat an Anti-Inflammatory Diet
Your diet is an easy place to look to reduce your chronic pain symptoms. You’ll want to eliminate inflammatory foods like sugar, artificial sweeteners, caffeine, additives, dairy and even grains. Some studies show that people with chronic pain do best on a low carb diet.
Instead of reaching for processed foods, choose fresh, organic fruits and vegetables alongside pastured meats. We’ve been juicing daily to increase our nutrient intake and I can feel a definite difference in my energy levels.
2. Practice Yoga
When you're focused on chronic pain management, exercise can feel like the last thing you want to take part in. Yoga, however, can have a tremendous impact on chronic pain for many people.
While it won’t do a lot for the pain in my foot and toe, it can do tremendous things for back, shoulder and neck pain. Whenever my back hurts, I always do some yoga stretches and find it gives me relief.
3. Give Tai Chi a Try
I haven’t practiced Tai Chi myself, but I keep reading how great it is for managing chronic pain. If you’re not familiar with Tai Chi, it is a series of slow movements.
Since it is a slow, low-impact exercise, it is a great choice for someone dealing with chronic pain. It’s great for your mind as well as your body too!
4. Supplement with Topical Magnesium
Most people in the US are magnesium deficient. It’s astounding how many areas of life low magnesium can affect.
If you think you might be magnesium deficient, try adding topical magnesium to your routine and see if it helps. I can tell I’m low again when I’m not sleeping well.
5. Practice Meditation Daily
The ancient practice of meditation has been around since the beginning of time for a reason – it works. I know a lot of people find it hard to sit quietly in today’s busy world. That's okay – it's why we call meditation a practice.
With a little time and practice, you can use meditation to help manage your chronic pain. You don’t have to “do” meditation perfectly. Just make a little time each day to work on your practice.
6. Enjoy a Therapeutic Massage
If you are like me, when you hear the word massage, you think of a relaxing spa day. However, massage can be very therapeutic as well. When I had a shoulder injury, massage helped tremendously.
Try finding a massage therapist in your area that specializes in working with people who need help with chronic pain management. Many insurance plans will cover therapeutic massage as well, so check with your insurance carrier.
