I have been thinking lately about how careful I am about the ingredients used in every skin care, personal care and cosmetic product used in my home. I am obsessed with reading labels and ensuring only safe ingredients come into contact with my family’s skin.

But what about the water we bathe and shower in? Isn’t it full of chlorine and other chemicals? We filter our water before we drink it, but not before it comes into contact with our skin. Knowing that 60% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream – how safe is that?

I started digging more and found that the level of chlorine in shower water isn’t exactly safe. In fact, when you take a hot shower, the chlorine moves from being a liquid to a gas – which is easily inhaled! Yikes!

So I started looking around at options to improve the quality of water we bathe in. I had heard of Berkey Water Filters, so I was excited to hear that they also make a shower filter.

The KDF Berkey Shower Filter transforms free-chlorine into a chloride element, which is too large to evaporate or be absorbed by the skin. It is then carried harmlessly through the water supply. No more inhaling chlorine! This process also safely reduces or removes iron, iron oxides, heavy metals, hydrogen sulfide and microrganisms from water.

Some benefits of using a KDF Berkey Shower Filter:

  • Effective for both hot and cold water
  • Reduces up to 95% of chlorine
  • Reduces chemical absorption and vapor inhalation
  • Reduces 98% of water soluble heavy metals
  • Reduces damage to hair and skin
  • Eliminates foul tastes and odors
  • Reduces lime, scale, mold and fungi in showers
  • Typically lasts 10,000 gallons or one year, whichever comes first

A healthier way to shower

I feel so much better knowing that we will no longer be inhaling chlorine and absorbing heavy metals into our bodies while showering – thank you Big Berkey! I think every health-conscious family should look into filtering their shower water!

I would have never thought about getting a filter for the shower. But its sounds like a great idea.

This is a very different product. I have not heard of this process before. Some areas we have lived in have had a terribly high chlorine content.
