Since we are planning to homeschool and Zoë will be starting Kindergarten in the fall (gasp), I have been trying to incorporate more educational activities into our routine now so we can prepare for what’s to come.
Last year, we got a subscription to ABC Mouse. I really liked that I could pay one subscription fee and have a separate profile for each of the girls. I also liked that is seemed to make learning fun.
Both girls were really excited to give ABC Mouse a try. The first day we set it up, I had trouble getting either one of them to stop! They had so much fun, they didn’t realize they were learning.
That enthusiasm continued for weeks. We would set up a computer for each girl every day and they’d complete their lessons. Hours would go by before they’d decide they were done and ready for something else.
While the newness of it has worn off, they both still really enjoy the program overall. They will do lessons for 30-60 minutes at a time before they’re ready to move onto something else, but I love that I can set up the computer and have them learn while I accomplish a few things around the house.
I also really like that it’s teaching them to use a computer since they are so integrated into our lives these days. Both of them can navigate the computer quite well now.
There are 6 different levels of learning, so it’s appropriate for toddlers up through Kindergartners. A Step-by-Step Learning Path presents the full ABCmouse.com curriculum in a carefully designed program of more than 450 lessons in those 6 levels.
I love how the child is guided through the learning path. It ensures they have a well-rounded experience. But they can also do separate activities.
They can buy hamsters and cage additions, fish for their aquarium and clothes to change their avatar with the tickets they earn during each lesson they complete. The rewards system has definitely encouraged the girls to keep moving through lessons.
It’s a great investment for any family that’s considering homeschooling, but wants to see how they interact with their child in a learning environment first. Even if you plan to send your kids to school, it’s a great learning supplement that’s fun!
It’s only $7.95 per month or $79 per year. You can try ABC Mouse free for 30 days before making a commitment. Click here for your free trial.
