Has there ever been a day where you really wanted to be able to get to the Doctor's office to get some symptoms checked out, but there just wasn't time or an appointment available? Now there's a solution – Doctor On Demand.
Doctor On Demand is an app that's free to download both in iTunes and the Google Play Store. This app allows you to video chat live with a US licensed and board certified doctor when it's convenient for you. And it only costs $40.
You can use Doctor On Demand for a variety of cases that aren't life threatening, but be sure to go to the emergency room if you have an emergency like chest pain, broken bones, seizures, poisoning or head, neck and back injuries. Some conditions Doctors on Demand is good for addressing include:
- Cough, cold and flu
- Asthma, allergies or hayfever
- Pink eye
- Bladder infections
- Pediatric questions
- Prescriptions refills (some medications like narcotics cannot be refilled via video chat)
- Referral to a specialist
The app's co-founder is Jay McGraw, Dr. Phil's son and creator and executive producer of The Doctors, and Dr. Phil is an advisor on the app. They do a background check on all doctors before they're allowed to join Doctor On Demand.
Downloading the app is very simple, as is registering. I like that you don't have to provide payment information when you first download the app. That way you have the app downloaded and ready to go for when you might need it.
I can see how this would be very convenient for times when you have one sick kid that you don't want to drag out of the house. Or for when there is a snowstorm and you can't get out of the house. Technology is so amazing.
I used the Doctor On Demand app to call and talk with a doctor – Dr. Devon- and I was really impressed with how easy it was to use the service. We had a little trouble with the audio initially due to a bad connection, but I just moved to another location in my house closer to my wifi box and it worked great.
I talked to Dr. Devon about how he'd treat my children if they were sick and he really made me feel confident that I'd be comfortable using the service for my kids. Let's say your child gets strep throat all the time and you know that's what they have, but you don't want to drag them into the doctor's office.
You can use Doctor On Demand to talk to a doctor and have them virtually examine your child. Then they can call a prescription in to the pharmacy of your choice and the antibiotics will be ready for you to pick up shortly. That is so much more convenient than taking a sick child to sit in a waiting room – they can rest instead and you don't risk infecting others at the doctor's office.
If you're not satisfied with the service, Dr. Devon shared that Doctor On Demand is very good about giving refunds. You can learn more about Doctor On Demand on their website. You can also connect with Doctor On Demand on Facebook and Twitter.
