Are you looking for the best ways to support your digestion after gallbladder removal surgery? Learn what I do to digest foods after my gallbladder was removed. This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Renew Life Digest Smart Enzymes.
Gallbladder problems are a huge issue these days, especially for women. Gallstones can form for a variety of different reasons, but I can tell you – they're very painful.
I first realized I had gallbladder issues back in 2012. The pain and discomfort was undeniable. After the first gallbladder attack happened, I didn't have another one for a couple years.
However, soon after that they were coming fast and furious. It seemed like I couldn't eat anything without being in pain, so I went to see my doctor.
They did an ultrasound and found a lot of sludge, but no stones (I had just done a gallbladder flush a few weeks prior). So we put in a referral request for me to have some more tests done on my gallbladder.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get those tests done before the next gallbladder attack struck. This time was different than most of the other times. I was in so much more pain than I had ever been in, even childbirth.
I ended up at the ER, diagnosed with pancreatitis and cholecystitis. A gallstone had gotten stuck in my pancreas, which is what was causing so much pain.
Shortly thereafter, I was transferred to the hospital by ambulance and told that I couldn't eat or drink anything for at least 3-5 days. And, once they got the pancreatitis under control, they'd need to remove my gallbladder. If they didn't and this happened again, it could be fatal.
So, I agreed to the surgery. I was so incredibly scared to lose part of my body that is important for good digestion. However, mine wasn't functioning at all and was hurting me far more than helping me.
I'd heard so many horror stories about digestion after gallbladder surgery. I was afraid I'd never be able to eat my favorite foods again. I was mentally prepared to eat a vegan, low fat diet for the rest of my life.
Then I decided I should consult with a nutritionist and an herbalist before making any drastic decisions about my diet. I am so glad I talked with some professionals!
I learned that I absolutely should not go on a low-fat diet. We need fat in our diets to keep us healthy. Instead, I should look at giving my liver and pancreas lots of extra love and support so they can do their jobs without the gallbladder's help.
I drink dandelion tea every night now and I add a special herbal extract to my water once a day. I take herbal bitters and digestive enzymes with every meal.
And you know what? I'm digesting food better than I have in many, many years. I have absolutely no pain when I eat, and my digestion is superb.
I really couldn't have imagined a better outcome to a surgery I had wanted to avoid! I'm dropping weight like crazy with no other lifestyle changes. I guess my body was just storing everything it was unable to digest before.
One of the digestive enzyme brands I'm testing right now is Renew Life® Digest Smart Enzymes. They contain 25 plant-based, raw enzymes to help our bodies digest the foods we love.
So far I really like the Digest Smart Enzymes! They work very well to help my body digest all of the foods I enjoy eating.
Our bodies do make enzymes to break down protein, carbohydrates, fat and fiber. However, they don't always work optimally, and supplementing with Digest Smart Enzymes can help our bodies digest foods more easily.
This can cut down on gas, bloating and other symptoms of occasional indigestion that so many people experience. If your digestive issues are a result of food allergies, gut concerns or a medical condition, make sure to talk with your medical provider about digestive enzymes first so you can rule out any necessary treatment options.
For me, though, adding digestive enzymes to my routine has been amazing. If you feel your digestive system could use some extra support, give Digest Smart Enzymes a try.
Digest Smart Enzymes are available at many retailers, including health food stores, grocery, and drugstores. To learn more about Digest Smart Enzymes and the full line of Renew Life® supplements, visit their website.
