I have been test-driving a variety of cars lately to get an idea of what vehicle I may want when we’re ready to get a second vehicle.
The latest vehicle we tried out was the 2014 Kia Sorento EX – and I’m in love. At the end of the week, I did not want to give this vehicle back!
As soon as we got it, I installed the car seats so we could go for a drive. Getting the car seats installed using the latch system and the seat belt were both very easy. The only thing I didn’t like is that the headrests on the back seats aren’t removable. While that does make installing car seats more difficult, they still went in securely.
The kids had a ton of leg room in the back and were quite comfortable.
One of their favorite features of the back seat was the built in window shades. The sun can get pretty bright in the mountains, and they liked being able to shade it out.
However, they also loved the moon roof. It extended all the way over the back seat so they could see the sky. It’s a great feature for nighttime drives since we have so many stars visible up here!
They also liked the outlet in the backseat. When the batteries in their LeapPads die, it wasn’t the end of the world as long as we had the cord with us.
I love that the Kia Sorento EX uses the keyless entry system. I definitely want my next vehicle to have that!
The whole driver’s console area is well organized and comfortable.
The odometer is all digital and very modern looking.
There are two charging ports as well as an AUX input and a USB input for your phone.
I also fell in love with the backup camera. I didn’t think I’d really use it, but found myself using it every single time I backed up. As soon as you put the car in reverse, the rearview mirrors turn down so you can see the ground and the backup camera turns on. If you get too close to something, it starts beeping loudly.
Then as soon as you put the car back in drive, the rearview mirrors switch back to their normal position and the backup camera turns off and the radio or GPS switches back on.
The leather seats were also very comfortable. They weren’t sticky like a lot of the leather seats I’ve sat on. They had great seat heaters and coolers. It was the first time I’ve been in a vehicle with seat coolers – they’re great for hot summer days.
The trunk space was huge. We could fit all of our snowboards and anything else we need in the back of the Kia Sorento. There is hidden storage space in the trunk of the model we had, but you can also have a third row in that space. We’d definitely opt for the third row if we purchased a Kia Sorento. I’d also go for the AWD option so it would work well during the winter months.
I also loved how the trunk opened and closed. All you have to do is push a button and it opens. Push the button again and it closes securely. I like that I didn’t have to work about making sure it was closed all the way.
The Kia Sorento EX is definitely my favorite vehicle that I have driven in a long time. It definitely goes on my list of vehicles I’d consider for our next purchase.
