Last year, I used far too many plastic baggies in Zoë's lunch, and I felt bad every single time I did it. This year, I have made a very concerted effort not to send any disposable items in Zoë's lunch box.
I'm proud to say that 2 months into the school year, not a single plastic baggie has made it into her lunch! Now that Kaylee is in school a few days a week, I will need to add some more reusable baggies to my stash to be able to keep up with the demand!
One area that is often overlooked in eco-friendly lunch boxes is napkins. It so easy to toss a paper napkin or paper towel in there right? Especially when you're afraid that they'll accidentally toss a reusable one?
So far, we haven't lost any reusable napkins to the garbage monster, and I think a big part of that is because we don't send any disposable items in her lunch (well unless you count organic juice boxes or snacks that were already pre-packaged).
One way you can brighten up your child's lunch a bit is to include a fun napkin! Funkins has some really cute reusable napkins and they even have festive holiday designs!
We just received 4 of them, and I have to tell you that the quality seems very good and they're quite large at 13”x15”. They are all hand-sewn and even have a label for you to write your child's name. All of the fabrics are lead and phthalate free, and CPSIA compliant.
We are very happy with our napkins from Funkins – and the girls can't wait to use these festive holiday designs in their lunches!
Funkins Napkins retail for $10 CDN each, but many of them are on sale! You can learn more about Funkins on their website.
