One of the final plastic holdouts in my house is the Tupperware. While I know it’s BPA-free, I still cringe every time I put our leftovers in the fridge. Plastic is still a petroleum-based product, and we try to avoid it when we can.

I decided that I was ready to take the plunge and start the transition to glass food storage containers, so I started to look around at brands to find one that had good reviews and was somewhat affordable.

I came across the Kinetic Go Green Glasslock brand, which was “Highly Recommended” by Cooks Illustrated Magazine in May 2010, so decided to give them a try.

They sent me their 3-piece set, which includes 3 different sizes:

  • 14 oz (~ 2 cups); 6.18” x 4.25” x 2.01”
  • 34 oz (~ 4 cups); 7.48” x 5.55” x 2.16”
  • 68 oz (~ 8 cups); 9.09” x 7.16” x 2.63”

These glass food storage containers are made from tempered glass, and are BPA free. The lids are plastic, and have an airtight and watertight silicone seal. As long as you don’t fill the containers too full, your food never touches the plastic, so I’m okay with that.

They are refrigerator and freezer safe as well as microwave safe without the lid (we don’t use a microwave and I don’t recommend it). They can also be placed on the top shelf of a dishwasher – oh how I miss my dishwasher!

I love the clean, simple design. It’s really convenient how they all nest inside each other with the lids attached. I don’t have a lot of storage space in our kitchen, so that is key!

They clean easily and I love that you can’t stain glass like plastic, and that it doesn’t retain the odor from what was stored in it last.

Overall, we are very happy with our Kinetic Go Green glass food storage set, and I hope to add more to our cabinet in the coming months.

I love the glass containers and air tight seals but how heavy are they? Thank you for a great review and a head’s up on a product that meets all my needs.

They’re definitely heavier than plastic, but they aren’t unreasonably heavy.

Thanks for the comprehensive review. I’ve been wanting to find an alternative to plastic storage containers, & these look like they’re great quality.

We have a similar set (purchased at Costco) that we have been using for years and absolutely love it.

This is a great alternative to plastic containers, they probably don’t get stained like plastic and they are better for your health!
