One of the most important qualities in a company is their integrity – and I was instantly impressed with the integrity of BasaBody.
All BasaBody products are made with Virgin Organic Coconut Oil that is easily absorbed into the skin and has natural antioxidants that are antimicrobial, antibacterial and antifungal (I love, love, love coconut oil). The coconut oil used by BasaBody is sourced from Kenya.
The BasaBody story began years ago when the founders took a single trip to Kenya. They connected with wonderful, intelligent women working hard to feed their families. Their small-scale enterprise was called Coast Coconut Farms, where they produced virgin, organic coconut oil by hand.
Intrigued by their commitment, skill, and entrepreneurial spirit, they were determined to help these women tell their story and grow their business. The result is BasaBody, named after the women of Mombasa, Kenya, where Basa’s coconut oil is produced. BasaBody growing in the United States as they are creating jobs here as well.
When I agreed to review the Basa Body products, all I knew about the ingredients were that they contained:
- No parabens
- No artificial fragrances
- No artificial preservatives
- No harsh irritating chemicals
The bottle of BasaBody lotion I received contained the following ingredients:
Distilled water, coconut oil, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, cetyl palmitate, sorbitan palmitate, glycerin, citric acid, leucidal liquide, sodium benzoate, gluconolactone, benzyl alcohol
I sent a message to the company asking a couple of questions about the preservative system and the Benzyl Alcohol, as that ingredient in particular concerned me.
I was expecting the standard angry response I get from most companies when I question their ingredients.
I didn’t get that from BasaBody. They actually listened! No more Benzyl Alcohol! And a better preservative system.
Seriously, they took my feedback into consideration and re-formulated the lotion based upon my suggestions – how cool is that!
So, here’s the re-formulated ingredients list (their website reflects the new ingredient list):
Distilled water, 100% organic raw virgin coconut oil, cetearyl olivate, sorbitan olivate, cetyl palmitate, sorbitan palmitate, glycerin, citric acid, leucidal liquid, vitamin E, Rosemary Extract, sodium benzoate, gluconolactone and natural fragrance
I also got to try the Coconut Oil Body Stick. The only ingredients in it are Virgin Coconut Oil and Beeswax. It smells really yummy and it glides on nicely.
I really have to say that I have an immense amount of respect for the integrity of BasaBody, both for their business mission in general and for the fact that they listen to their customers. I really feel like that’s a very rare quality these days.
That’s why I’m excited to provide one of my Happy Mothering readers a full size bottle of BasaBody Coconut Scented Lotion as part of my prize package for the upcoming One Stop Christmas Hop giveaway event, beginning November 29.
Leave a comment below telling me why you want to try the BasaBody lotion, then return on November 29 to enter the giveaway!
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.Powered by Sidelines
