I finally got my walking boot off last Friday! It had been just shy of 10 weeks since I shattered my big toe, so I was going a little stir crazy to say the least. I never realized it would be so mentally and emotionally challenging not to be able to do things I take for granted – like walking and exercising.
Now that the boot is off, I can finally get back to working on my fitness levels. I have to take it easy and work my way back into things at a slow and steady pace so I don't re-injure myself, but I'm excited to get my body moving again.
One goal I made for myself when I was injured was to start doing yoga at least a couple times a week. I really need to work on my strength and flexibility, and yoga is an amazing practice for both.
Before I had kids, I went to 2-3 yoga classes a week. It's amazing what a wonderful exercise it is for your body and your mind. My head is always clearer and my stress levels are always reduced after a class. And it's a great physical workout too!
I have tried my best to get to the yoga studio for classes over the last few years, but it's just so hard to find the time with my busy schedule. And now that winter is upon us, it will become even more challenging, and even harder to get the motivation.
So, I decided to start doing yoga at home instead. I've taken a ton of classes over the years, so I understand form (even though my form isn't so great anymore) and don't necessarily need a live instructor.
However, instead of trying to come up with my own yoga routine, I decided to get a membership to MyYogaWorks so I can take online yoga classes at home.
I like that they provide a variety of lengths of yoga classes, so I can fit in as much yoga as my schedule will allow. You can find online yoga classes from MyYogaWorks that range anywhere from 5 minutes to 90 minutes.
There are more than 1,000 classes available with your membership. Classes are offered for all levels, so whether you're a total newbie or an experienced yogi, there are plenty of classes that you'll enjoy.
Best of all, you can stream the classes from wherever you are on your laptop, tablet, phone or TV (with Chromecast and AppleTV – I'd love if they came out with a SmartTV app!). I love that I can keep up with my yoga practice even when we're traveling, which is when it's easiest to fall off the fitness wagon.
My girls are just as excited as I am to start practicing yoga. They love the time with mommy to slow down and give our bodies and minds what they need through our yoga practice. It's a great mother-daughter bonding activity, and since we homeschool it counts as physical education time!
