Many green businesses have been in existence for a while but have not taken off because “green” initiatives were not the focal point. With the economy, budget cuts, and the fuel crisis, some companies have had no choice but to adopt green principles and focus on businesses offering green products and services. Here are some green companies that have seen growth within the past couple of years that had not previously experienced growth.

1. Vestas

Vestas manufactures wind turbines and is one of the biggest wind turbines in the world. The company is based out of Denmark. The company specializes in installation, maintenance and planning. The company has experienced recent growth. This is due to a significant purchase by the government. In 2009, the turbine sales were expected to reach $9.2 billion.

2. Tesla Motors

Tesla Motors was one of the innovators of all-electric vehicles. One of their flagship vehicles, Model S, was scheduled to be released in 2010 and has gained significant interest since that moment. The vehicle goes from zero to 60 in four seconds. Model S can also easily reach 125 miles per hour, is economical and only costs $0.02 per mile to operate. To purchase the vehicle, expect to pay $60,000. The company also sells solar chargers and battery packs.

3. Zipcar

Zipcar is another green business that helps people travel in large cities. The car can be reserved online and can be accessed by using a credit card in a parking lot. The insurance and gas is covered on compact vehicles and sedans that are good for the environment. The membership costs $50 per year and $11 per hour. Compact minis are the most common vehicles used, but BMWs and SUVs are also present.

4. NextEra Energy Formerly Known as Florida Power and Light

This company rebranded itself in 2009 after it expanded to 28 states and Canada. The company is dedicated to renewable energy. The company is the second largest wind power farm in the world. It is second only to Iberdrola. Forty-four percent of the total energy from the company originates from wind power.

5. Eaton Corporation

Electric hybrid vehicles are not limited to just cars, but delivery trucks, transfer trucks and garbage trucks. Eaton Corporation is developing hybrid trucks that can be used for companies such as UPS, Waste Management and FedEx. The energy used from the brake systems on these vehicles make the vehicle 45 percent more efficient than the energy used from the batteries. The hybrid systems developed by this company has been introduced in buses and trucks in China and the United States. This company is expected to become a leader in the industry.

Keep an Eye on These Green Businesses

These green businesses are expected to perform well in the coming years. The green initiatives will bring more business to these companies and will cause revenue to grow. As the businesses grow, so will the global presence.
