It’s officially Christmas break around here. Wow, that came fast! Even though we homeschool, we do it through a Charter School. It’s really great because we get funds for homeschooling supplies and extracurricular activities, but we still get to direct our children’s education.
We had debated whether to continue schooling over the break, but I think that we’ll give the girls a break this year. Over the Christmas break, Brian works every day at the mountain as a snowboard instructor, so the girls are with me full time.
I’m going to try to take as much time off of work as possible to just “be” with them. However, I know from experience I won’t be able to totally unplug, so I needed to come up with some ideas on how to keep the girls busy over the Christmas break.
We recently got a couple of Beados sets from Moose Toys, and I thought they would be the perfect way to stoke their creative little minds. Beados are a super fun creative craft kit where kids can create their own unique designs and characters through a mess-less process.
It kind of reminds me of those beads that you’d make a design out of, then melt together with an iron, when I was a kid. There’s no way I’d let the girls play with an iron without supervision, so fortunately Beados doesn’t require heat, glue or anything else that could cause a disaster.
All you need is a Beados kit and some water. As long as you have those two things, your kids are all set for a day of creative fun over the Christmas break.
To make a Beados creation, start by choosing a template (or go free form).
Adhere the template under one of the bead trays.
Then just add the beads to the template.
You can use the provided tool (shown above) or use your fingers.
Once the design is complete, all they have to do is spray the beads with water 5-6 times and let it dry for 20-30 minutes.
When the beads dry, they’re fused together into your child’s design!
After they’re done with their Beados creation, your kids can show off their design on a display stand. Or they can use the connectable play pads and scene cards to create a Beados world of their own.
Zoë came up with the idea to make Christmas ornaments for our tree from Beados! I love that creative little girl so much.
My girls have had so much fun playing with Beados already. I can’t wait to see what other creations they make over the Christmas Break!
If you’re looking for a fun craft or activity to keep your kiddos happy and inspired over the Christmas break, check out Beados. They make a great last minute gift idea too!
