What’s up Happy Mothering followers? Brian here. I’ve got some really cool things in the pipe I want to share with you.
Though I haven’t been super active with shooting new Crazy Dad Speaks videos lately, I have been active in helping other bloggers grow their online businesses.
Over the past few months, I’ve had over 50 people reach out asking for help with their online businesses. I haven’t even responded to several yet. (If you’re one of those people, no worries… I’ll get to you as soon as I can.)
It started out with me just giving a few written pointers. Then it turned into talking on the phone for 10-15 minutes, then for 20 minutes and then an hour or more. In reality, I would love to help everyone. That said, I don’t have time unless I monetize my consultations.
Monetizing My Consultations
There are a couple of ways I can go about monetizing my consultations.
The 1st way is to charge a fee per consultation over a set period of time. This is pretty much the standard way consultants make money. That said, most of the people who are asking for my help don’t have a budge to hire a consultant.
The 2nd way is something I thought long and hard about… and I think it’ll work.
We have a large loyal audience on our blog here. We have amazing advertisers. These consultations would make great content for our blog.
The way I plan to monetize my consultations by recording the video calls with my clients (including the video, audio and screen captures) and publishing those videos on our blog, YouTube and other social media.
I will own all rights to the video, audio and our conversation. I will monetize the video and audio for myself, and I will retain 100% of the profits. What my clients will get out of the deal is my time, thoughts, opinions and exposure. It’s a win-win.
My 1st Video Business Consultation
So it took me a few days to figure out how to record everything on my screen and the video calls. It’s more of a learning curve than I expected. Making videos on my phone is super easy to do.
The way I did it this time will probably be the way I do it for now, but not be the way I do it in the future.
I ended up Skyping the call, then I used Camtasia to edit/ render the video and turn it into an MP4 file so I can use the file.
So my 1st Video Business Consultation will be going up tomorrow here on Happy Mothering, accompanied by a blog post.
There are many mistakes with the entire video production.
I’m going to go over the mistakes I made and how I plan on fixing them in the future in tomorrow’s blog post.
From the actual screen recording to some audio issues to talking for 2 hours (meant to be a max of 1 hour). I learned a lot doing my 1st Video Business Consultation. My next one will be even better.
I’m actively looking for another video conference solution. I think I’ve found one, I’m not quite sure yet though.
More Video Business Consultations to Come
Dude… I really enjoy telling people what I would do if I were in their shoes. I really enjoy sharing what is working for us and what’s not. I plan on shooting my next video business consultation this week; maybe I’ll get 2 done?
It’s a slow going process and I’m sure I’ll get faster as I do more of these video consults.
My immediate goal is to do 1 video consult a week and eventually get it up to doing 5 a week. I think there’s a good amount of our followers who would get a lot out of hearing what other people are doing.
