After I started using essential oils a few years ago, I really got into making my own homemade beauty and personal care products. Once you get a collection of necessities like quality essential oils, coconut oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter, almond oil and castile soap, you can make virtually anything you need, including these homemade lotion bars for massage!
It's winter time, and up here in the mountains we have crazy dry air – as in the humidity levels get down into the single digits. If you don't have some great lotion or body butter on hand, your skin will punish you for it. Trust me, I know first hand!
We go through so much lotion and body butter during the winter, that I wanted to see if I could make it myself since I have to order the lotion we use (I usually order through Thrive Market or 100% Pure). I decided to make homemade lotion bars because they seemed easier to make than a more fluid lotion for my first go-round.
Our homemade lotion bars came out great and they're very soothing and moisturizing for our dry winter skin! If you have been thinking about making your own homemade lotion bars, give it a try. It's easier than you think!
Heart Shaped Homemade Lotion Bars for Massage
- 1 cup raw cocoa butter
- 1/2 cup coconut oil
- 1/2 teaspoon almond oil
- Lavender essential oil
- Wilton heart mold
Place the filled mold in your refrigerator and allow your homemade lotion bars to cool completely (it should take about 1 hour).
Gently pop your homemade lotion bars out of the mold and store them in an airtight container or in the refrigerator (especially if you live in a warm climate).
The bars will begin to melt in your hands if you hold them for very long, which makes them perfect for a nice warm oil massage.
