We’re huge fans of Learning Resources. We have acquired quite a few of their educational toys over the last year, so I was excited to check out the new selection for 2014!
The first toy we received from them this year is the Word Construction set. Since Zoë is learning to read right now, I couldn’t wait for her to try it out!
She squealed with excitement that we got a new toy, and that it was one to help her with her reading and spelling skills. She loves school and everything she is learning, and I’m so proud of her. She sat and played with the set for around an hour when we first opened it, and she has played with it several times since.
Kaylee really wants to be able to spell too, so she tries her best to put letters together, but she’s not there yet. She still has fun talking about the letters and the sounds they make though.
The easiest way to use Word Construction with a new reader is to have them put a consonant, vowel and then another consonant onto one of the bolts. Then they can turn the nuts one at a time to make new words. Each bolt holds up to 4 nuts, so as your child’s reading skills improve, they can make longer, more complex words.
Word Construction includes 6 bolts, 30 printed nuts and an Activity Guide so multiple kids can play with the set at once. It is available for purchase on the Learning Resources website.
