Kaylee will be 4-years old on Valentine’s Day. She has co-slept with us since she was a baby. Until just before Zoë turned 5, all 4 of us slept in our California King bed.
Around 2-3 weeks after Zoë decided to move into her bed, Kaylee decided to go into her bed as well. As much as I love co-sleeping and snuggling with my girls, it really was great to have space back in the bed and not to be kicked throughout the night (read more on my thoughts about that here).
They were both sleeping happily in their own room until a couple months ago when Kaylee started going through another Mommy phase. She wanted to be with me constantly, and she very seldom slept through the night in her own bed. There were nights when she didn’t even want to get into her bed. So, she started sleeping with us more often so that Zoë could get sleep.
We recently took a few trips, and the girls got to sleep in their own bed at the hotel, and they thought it was just the coolest thing ever. So, when I asked them if they wanted bunk beds or a “big” bed to share, the overwhelming response was that they wanted a big bed. My sister and I shared a Queen bed when we were kids and we enjoyed it, so I thought it was a good idea.
Just a couple weeks after we had this conversation, I was contacted by MyGreenMattress.com about reviewing one of their safe, non-toxic, hand-crafted mattresses (you can read more about the toxins in conventional mattresses in this post). The girls were absolutely thrilled and couldn’t wait for it to arrive.
We received it just over a week ago, and they were so excited to sleep in it the first night! They spent that entire first evening in their room playing on the bed and told me they were never leaving that bed because they loved it so much!
They happily went to bed at their bedtime (no bedtime struggles = happy Mommy). To my absolute shock, Kaylee slept through the entire night and did not wake up to come into our bed. Zoë usually always sleeps through the night, but it had been a while since Kaylee had.
After 8 nights of sleeping on their MyGreenMattress.com mattress, Kaylee has slept through the night 7 of those nights! She has only come into our bed once. She says her new mattress is so much more comfortable than her old toddler mattress, and so she sleeps so much better!
I love going into their room in the morning to wake Zoë for school and seeing the girls snuggling together. Sharing a bed has been a wonderful transition from co-sleeping. We’re all happier and sleeping better now thanks to the wonderful mattress from MyGreenMattress.com!
