In honor of the upcoming birthday of Dr. Theodore Geisel (Dr. Seuss) on March 2, I have a special treat for you! I have put together some fun ideas and snacks for one of Dr. Seuss’ most beloved books (and my most cherished one) – The Lorax!
“UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better, it’s not.”
One of the many reasons I adore The Lorax is because it presents a fun and colorful way for you to talk to your kids about what consumerism can do to nature, and ultimately the human race and all animal and plant life. The lessons throughout this book open the door to discussing important topics like preserving nature, living within nature’s intents and how to reduce, reuse and recycle – all of which are important values to me and my family.
I have decided that we will spend this week celebrating Dr. Seuss and the legacy he has left us through The Lorax. I hope these plans will inspire you to celebrate The Lorax in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday in 2 weeks. For this celebration, I have put together some upcycling craft ideas, healthy snack options as well as some fun and thrifty activities for you to pair with the book (or even the movie).
There are so many good lessons we can pull from The Lorax, things you may already be doing in your home and some things you may not be but would like to incorporate. These activities will be wonderful to pull out again when Earth Day rolls around as a reminder of how we should be taking care of the only Earth we have – each and every day.
