I have share my love of wine many times before. It's the perfect beverage for any special occasion, and it's a nice way to wind down at the end of a long day.
During winter I like to drink reds, and during summer, I love to drink whites. As much as I'd love for fancy expensive wines to be in my budget all the time, that's just not the priority right now. So I love discovering affordable wines that are also delicious.
Wente Vineyards sent me a selection of their wines over the holidays to sample, and I was very pleased with them! I received 3 bottles of red and 3 bottles of white to sample.
The 3 reds we sampled were the Wente Vineyards 2012 Southern Hills Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP: $18.00); Wente Vineyards 2012 Charles Wetmore Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP: $30.00); and Wente Vineyards 2011 Sandstone Merlot (SRP: $18.00).
They were all quite delicious. We enjoyed them both with dinner, and as a beverage to sip on while watching a movie after the kids had fallen asleep. While I normally go for a good Cab over a Merlot, I also enjoyed the Melot from Wente.
The 3 whites we sampled were the Wente Vineyards 2013 Morning Fog Chardonnay (SRP: $15.00); Wente Vineyards 2013 Louis Mel Sauvignon Blanc (SRP: $15.00); and Wente Vineyards 2012 Riverbank Riesling (SRP: $15.00).
I knew I'd like the Chardonnay (and I did), but I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Riesling. I normally don't like sweet wines, but this one had just the perfect, crisp flavor! I would definitely drink a bottle of the Riesling again.
I didn't like the Sauvignon Blanc as much as I enjoyed the other 2 bottles. The grapefruit taste was just a bit too much for my tastebuds.
Overall, I was very happy with both the quality and the affordability of these Wente Vineyards wines. There is one that would be great for any Valentine's Day celebration you have planned this weekend!
