This post was inspired by my ongoing partnership with Netflix, as a member of their Stream Team.
When you know something is wrong with your body, it’s so easy to crawl up into your shell, stick your head in the sand and ignore the world. It’s easy to hide and pretend like nothing is wrong, or that it’s just temporary. Trust me, I did it for years.
Then there are the moments where you have to stand up for yourself and demand answers. Information is power, and sometimes you have to put yourself out there and work to get that information.
It took me a few years to admit my health was really suffering, and two decades to admit there had always been something off with my body. Last year I’d had enough, and decided to demand answers. As you know by now, I was finally diagnosed with neurocardiogenic syncope in October of last year.
The symptoms suck, but they aren’t going to break me. Now that I know I’ll be living with this condition for the rest of my life, I can get back to my life. I can stop hiding and pretending like the world is going to stop and wait for me to feel better, because it’s not.
So this year I have decided to start my life again. I am putting a strong focus on my health and fitness this year because I am the only one that can strengthen my body. I also want to put a strong focus on doing more things that make me happy, and less that don’t. We only get this one life and I’m going to live it to the fullest!
That’s why I was so inspired by Netflix’s new show, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. We had the opportunity to screen it before it was released over the weekend and it has quickly become one of my favorite shows. If you have Netflix, you MUST watch this show!
After living in an underground bunker as part of a doomsday cult, Kimmy Schmidt decides to take on New York City. She is totally embracing the life she thought was gone. Her character is really sweet and endearing, and she inspires me to take life on too.
She could have chosen to stay hidden away even after she learned the world hadn’t ended. But she didn’t. She decided to take her life back. If she can jump out of a van with nothing but a backpack and a few dollars and expect to live a beautiful and full life, then I can do it to. It’s all about how you look at life, right?
We can all be unbreakable. We just have to make that decision to live our lives fully and not let anything get us down. If Kimmy Schmidt and I can do it, you can do it too.
