If you’re like most moms (and me), you probably struggle with fitting fitness into your already busy day. Now that the sun is out and the weather is starting to warm up, we’ve been taking more trips to the park.
I love that we have a park only a block away, and that it’s on a relatively quiet street so I can feel safe with my kids running around and playing like, well, kids! There is no reason that they should be the only ones to take advantage of running around in the sunshine though.
Trips to the park are also a great time for you to squeeze in a little exercise. Here are 5 easy tips for fitting fitness into your park outing.
Go For a Walk
Most parks have some sort of a walking path or, at the very least, a perimeter you can walk around. Last year I started going for walks while my girls played. Lately, Kaylee and I have been taking walks to the park while Zoe is in school. She often walks laps with me, but I also like to challenge her to how many times she can go down the slide while I do one lap. It makes it more fun for her to have Mommy walking.
Step Ups on the Equipment
Do you remember when step classes were super popular? Well, there are plenty of places around the playground that you can use to step up and down – giving you a nice workout.
Tricep Dips on the Park Benches
Every park usually has at least one bench. And triceps are one muscle group most of us could use some help with! You can do a few quick sets and it won’t set you back any time. If you don’t know how to do tricep dips, watch this video.
Swings aren’t just for swinging anymore! You can also use them to do lunges, which are a great exercise for your legs and glutes. See how to do them here.
When you’re done doing your lunges, you can also use the swing to do pushups. While they aren’t my favorite exercise to do, they are a great workout! Watch this video to see how to do them and get a couple more ideas for playground workouts.
