Did you know that the average mom only gets to spend 15 minutes per day on herself? It's no wonder so many of us are frazzled and overwhelmed. If we just set aside some time for ourselves on a regular basis, we'd be much happier mommies.
This year I made it a priority to carve time out for myself, and it makes a huge difference. While I absolutely love going to the gym, sometimes I want to be outside when the weather is nice. It has been unseasonably beautiful where we live lately, so I've been trying to get more fresh air.
There is a walking path along the lake that I love to walk on when I have time. It's such a gorgeous walk, and I always feel so peaceful when I walk there. With the lake so low right now, you can even walk on the beach now rather than the pathway, so it adds a whole new perspective to the walk.
Usually when my kids have classes or activities, I wait there until they're done. During Zoe's last art class, I decided I didn't want to sit around and wait, so I decided to take that time for myself and go for a walk by the lake.
I have been seeing this tree from the road. Even though it has died, probably from the low water level, it's still beautiful to me.
I love art, so it's always a nice treat to see that someone has gotten creative in nature. How cool is this?
As I walked along the beach, I enjoyed every moment of the sun on my shoulders and the cool breeze on my face. It was a very relaxing time.
It's always eye opening to see the water level continue to decline at the lake. And we should still have a lot more snow on the mountain this we currently have, so the lake level isn't going to rise when the snow melts.
Nonetheless, it's still a wonderful way to spend some “me” time. Sometimes I like to walk with a friend, and other times I like to walk on my own. It's like meditation.
I have been working on tracking my activity so I can be more conscious and aware of how much activity I'm actually getting. I have tried a few monitoring devices, and I recently received the new Omron Alvita Wireless Activity Tracker (HJ-327T). I really love the size and simplicity of this device. It really came in handy at Expo West. It was awesome to see how many steps and miles I was walking each day!
I also love the accompanying smartphone app. To sync it with the activity monitor, it's as simple as opening the app and shaking the device to turn it on. Then just click sync and it's done in seconds. You can see your activity by the day, week, month or year. It's a great incentive to try and remember to wear it every day (I have forgotten it a few days when I left the house).
The Omron Alvita Wireless Tracker records regular steps, aerobic steps, distance and calories burned, which gives you a broader picture than steps alone. This information allows you to set realistic goals and monitor your progress along the way.
Best of all, this device is only $45, which is much more affordable than other devices I have looked at. If you want to track your activity on a budget, the Omron Alvita Wireless Activity Tracker is a good choice.
When is the last time you “walked out” on your family?
