Thank you to Spiral Spring for sponsoring this Tropical Snack Bars recipe. All opinions are my own.
My kids are snackers. Let’s face it – everyone in our little family loves to snack. I love making homemade snacks for my family, and I love even more when I can sneak in some extra nutritious ingredients like Spirulina. I thought my snack bars recipe would be the perfect recipe to modify to include spirulina.
If you aren’t adding spirulina into your diet yet, you should! Spirulina is a type of blue-green algae that has been consumed for thousands of years because of its great nutritional profile. It has known benefits of strengthening the immune system, improving eye health, improving the digestive system, lowering cholesterol and helping to detoxify the body.
There are actually two types of spirulina – Spirulina Maxima (Arthrospira Maxima) and Spirulina Platensis (Arthrosphira Platensis). Of the two, Spirulina Maxima is more nutritious when you’re looking at the protein, clorophyl and phycocyanin. It is a great source of antioxidants, proteins, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, fatty acids, phyto-nutrients, pro-biotics, and nutriceuticals, so I recommend Spirulina Maxima.
Many companies say they offer Spirulina Maxima, but there’s only one brand that has certified this statement to be true – Spiral Spring. Their Spirulina Maxima is certified by PhycoTech Institute (based in the USA). In addition, Spiral Springs Spirulina Maxima is gluten free, non-GMO, certified Kosher and USDA certified organic. All of the Spirulina Maxima is grown in a special manner in Chile. Click here to read more about the process.
