This post is written by me as a member of the Netflix Stream Team. All opinions are my own.
There is nothing worse than hearing your kids argue. Most often, I have taken a neutral stance and try to let them work out their differences when it’s possible. After all, there isn’t going to be anyone to settle their disputes for them when they’re older.
One thing they have started to disagree about more often is what to watch. Even though they’re only 21 months apart, their interests are quickly diverging. Kaylee is still very much into cartoon and character shows. Zoë, on the other hand, is definitely way more into the tween shows. Fortunately there are a few of those they both enjoy like Girl Meets World. Netflix just released Season 2, so that has brought some peace for a bit 🙂
Both girls have their own Netflix channels so they can keep their interests separate. Kaylee is known to sneak off into her room to watch her shows when Zoë is busy doing something else. Of course, when Zoë wants to watch one of her shows, Kaylee tries to persuade her to watch something else. And then the chaos ensues.
I have tried instituting the idea of taking turns, but Zoë is such a caring big sister that she ends up letting Kaylee have more turns than her. Then she gets upset about that.
That’s why I’m thrilled with the Fortune Teller idea that Netflix shared with the Stream Team this month. I printed it out and had the girls take turns adding a show they like to the sections. Then when they disagree over what to watch, I can pull the Fortune Teller out and ta-da – no more arguing over Netflix!
How to play with the Fortune Teller:
- Pick a color on the top four flaps and spell out the letters (e.g. B-L-U-E) while alternating a pinching and pulling motion with the teller to reveal a set of four numbers.
- Pick a number and move the fortune teller the corresponding number of times, revealing a second set of four numbers.
- Choose a genre and open the flap to reveal what’s up next on Netflix.
