Many of us dream of building our own homes. Our own little homestead – plots of independence in this crazy world. Being able to get away from it all and live sustainably on my own homestead is a dream that lives deep inside of me.
When you start looking into building your dream homestead, you'll find that natural gas isn't available in all areas. Many areas that are truly “away from it all” don't offer that modern convenience. In those cases, propane is a great choice. It allows people that want their own independent homestead, but don't want to give up modern conveniences.
Have you looked into propane as a resource for your homestead? The Build with Propane website is a great resource for learning how to incorporate propane into your home plans. You can even join the site as a member to get access to more great information.

Propane as a Backup Energy Source
During times of emergencies, sometimes the electricity and natural gas get shut off. What will your family do then? Having a backup generator that runs on propane is a good idea.
Did you know that gasoline may not be available during a power outage and gas pumps don’t work without electricity? Storing gasoline can be tricky. On the other hand, propane stores very well, so it makes a great choice as a backup energy source.
If you're looking for a generator that works with propane, check out the Generac LP Series 5500 Portable Propane Generator. It's on wheels, so it makes it easy for you to pull out of storage and put to use when you need it.
It's also powerful with a 389 cc Generac OHV engine and heavy duty alternator that delivers 5500 running watts and 6875 starting watts to power essential circuits. It will even work to power hardwired appliances like your furnace or sump pump during a power outage.
Make sure you're prepared for the event of an emergency power outage. Look into using propane as a backup energy source for your family.

Hi Chrystal,
Thanks for the generator information. There are many styles and price ranges for portable generators. Finding the right one for your home can be quite a chore.
