I am so excited to be finding high-quality, natural candle brands! Another wonderful company I discovered at Expo West is Way Out Wax. I have been searching for candles that are scented only with essential oils (and not an essential oil “blend,” which can mean very little essential oil, and lots of synthetic fragrance oil).
One thing I hadn’t thought about is that candle companies can hide phthalates in the synthetic fragrance oils (to “boost” their candles) since they don’t have to disclose what’s in the fragrance. I knew that about skin care products, but it’s just as scary in candles since you’re actually breathing in the fragrance – yikes!
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told by candle companies that use synthetic fragrance oils that it just isn’t possible to make good-smelling candles with only essential oils. Way Out Wax has totally proven them wrong!
In addition to only using essential oils to create great smelling candles, they only use non-GMO soy wax, which is also pesticide free. It does make their candles a little more expensive than other soy wax candles, but I’ll pay that difference to keep GMOs and synthetic fragrance out of my house.
Additionally none of their candles contain dyes or harmful additives, and all of their wicks are either pure cotton or hemp. They even offer a line of organic candles.
All of Way Out Wax’s candles are handcrafted in their facility in Morrisville, Vermont. I love that they are passionate about keeping jobs in their community, and that they’re providing a high quality of life for their employees.
Way Out Wax has been in business since 1992, so they’re not a newcomer, but they are new to me! The owners of Way Out Wax are a husband and wife team and, when you speak with them, their passion about what they do shines through so brightly it just makes you smile. I love to see that spark and passion in business owners. It lets you know that they care about their products, so you know you’re getting the best.
I also love that they provide a list of burning tips on their website. I hadn’t seen most of these before, but I’ll be sure to start following them to minimize soot in my house and prolong the life of my candles!
I am burning my lavender candle right now, and the smell is quite soothing and relaxing!
Their room spray also smells very nice. I haven’t used air freshener in years, so I’m happy to have found one that’s safe and natural to use in my home. With 2 little kids running around, there can definitely be some interesting smells in my house some days!
If you’re struggles as much as me to find a natural candle company that only uses essential oils, you have to check out Way Out Wax!
