It’s that time again where I do another video business consultation. This time I did a video business consultation with Anna from Salt in my Coffee.
So check this out… Anna and her husband have lived this amazing adventure on a boat and now are continuing that adventure by homesteading in Maine. Seriously cool, right?
What I immediately got from Anna is she’s a true bundle of positive energy. It was such a pleasure to be on the consultation with her. We went into super depth about what she wanted to do with her business, goals, where she’s having issues and so on.
The most interesting business consultation I’ve had yet!
So this was a very interesting consultation. When Anna applied for a consultation with me I was like, “Wow, I think I’m going to need extra time with her.” And boy did I ever need that time! 45 minutes wasn’t going to cut it. In fact, this video business consultation is over 2 hours long and jam-packed full of some awesome information!!!
A trend I’m starting to find with bloggers is the tendency to find themselves in an identity crisis. Anna has fallen victim and prey to this as well… her URL and her blog name did not match. She was thinking about completely starting her blog over with a new name. We went into depth and detail of why that would not be a good thing. And I’m absolutely positive she’s stoked on this as well!!!
This is a super in-depth consultation that is over 2 hours long. What I do with Anna is go back and forth and show her what we are doing that’s successful on Happy Mothering and what she can do to try to copy our success.
Now check this out… this is the best news and I’m completely blown away by and stoked on it. In the 2 weeks since we had this consultation, there have been some major changes with Salt in My Coffee. The biggest change is a massive increase in her revenue.
Instead of the regular $2,000 a month she’s been making, Anna is now on track to make $3,000 this month due to my recommendations and more importantly due to her taking action and implementing them. There’s no doubt in my mind that she will make even more next month. I’m so super stoked for her.
Video Business Consultation
I hope you enjoy this consultation as much as we did making it. I broke this video up into 4 Parts to make it easier to watch and refer back to. Be sure to check out the Resources for Bloggers below. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask in the comments.
Resources for Bloggers
These are some of the services we use for Happy Mothering, I hope you can find some value in them too.
The Blog Fixer
Kris heads up The Blog Fixer and we have used pretty much every one of his services. We have his “Live Fix” plugin, so all of the “fixes” we’ve purchased are made automatically when we publish a post. No forgetting to use nofollow or worrying about noreferrer being left on any affiliate links. It just makes sense. Go check out his site, seriously, he has services that you don’t even realize you need until you see them.
The Co-Schedule app is great for content redistribution. We use the Requeue feature to redistribute blog posts. We have about 2,500 blog posts so it just makes sense too continually push those out to social media. While it’s great filler content for our social feed, it’s by no means the only social media one should be doing. It’s a great thing to have if you have a lot of good evergreen content that you need distributed.
We haven’t been using Later for very long. That said, what we have used of Later has been absolutely fantastic so far.
Later allows us to schedule content to all of our social media outlets. Later also has Linkin.bio for our Instagram.
As far as Linkin.bio goes, we have an 86% click-through rate to the blog.
So one thing some people think is “Hey, I want all of that traffic to go to my blog so I’ll just make my own page on my blog.”
While that’s cool and all, we simply do not have the time to update our blog every time we post an update on Instagram. And a cool thing with Linkin.bio is we get analytics of what is performing well and what is not on Instagram. Regardless, Later has been a game changer for us for sure.
StudioPress is amazing. This is where we got our theme from. We decided to go ahead and purchase the full package for around $500, which gives us unlimited access to all StudioPress themes now and in the future.
At first, I wasn’t quite sure about buying the $500 package. I was like, “we can just buy one theme for a fraction of the price and it will be good to go.” Well, that wasn’t quite the way it happened. We went ahead and got the full boat version of StudioPress and sure enough, the original theme that we wanted did not work for us.
In fact, in the matter of a couple of months, we went through several themes. Now we are good to go with our theme but if we were purchasing themes individually we would have spent way more than $500 before we got the theme we are on currently.
WP Recipe Maker
Chrystal wrote an entire blog post about why having a recipe plugin is important. She also goes into detail about we decided to go with WP Recipe Maker. There’s some great information on that blog post.
If you have followed me for any time at all, you know I’m a huge fan of paying for advertising. Facebook Blueprint is a free course from Facebook that is absolutely phenomenal in teaching how to advertise on Facebook. I highly recommend everyone go through this course as it will help you with all advertising.
Google SEO Guide
Google is absolutely amazing in what they provide as far as knowledge goes. The Google SEO Starter Guide is a fantastic place to start when it comes to learning search engine optimization and for continuing education about what Google wants as far search engine optimization goes. I highly recommend following the Google Webmasters Central Blog.
I am not an SEO Expert by any means and I will never be an SEO expert. That said I feel it’s extraordinarily important to understand SEO and to get the information from the best sources possible, which is Google.
We have had Nerdpress for a few months now and we have been using them for our WordPress support. We could not be happier as they have put out tons of fires for us. Once, they were already in the middle of putting out a fire when we figured it out and contacted them. Another time they took care of the issue the night before when we found out about the issue mid-next day.
I can’t describe the peace of mind it gives us to have Nerdpress providing security for Happy Mothering.
Over the years Chrystal and I have both learned how to code and how to do all sorts of different things on the blog to customize it in varying ways. That said, there are people who do development professionally every single day all day long… and that is why we have hired Handy WP.
We pay Handy WP a flat monthly fee to take care of any and all fixes we need on the blog. We haven’t been with Handy WP very long. We’re super impressed so far with the work they’ve done. The time it saves to have them do fixes compared to the time it takes us to do the fixes, it just makes sense to hire out the service to professionals.
If you’re wondering why we have NerdPress and HandyWP, we use NerdPress for security, optimization and high level support. We use Handy WP for basic tech support tasks like changing something in your theme’s code. NerdPress offers something similar as an upgrade, but it’s far more expensive.
NoFollow VS No Referrer
A highly debated topic I wrote my 2 cents on. There’s constant change on the Internet and in Internet Marketing. We learned a long time ago that instead of fighting change, we can simply change and move on. It makes life so much easier.
Did you get value from this video business consultation and blog post?
I hope each and every one of you reading this got some value from this video business consultation and blog post.
Anna’s results are inspiring. She went from $2,000 a month every month, through last month… to a projected $3,000 this month. This is all in less than 2 weeks of starting to implement my changes.
