Yesterday, I wrote about my decision to send Zoë to Kindergarten rather than homeschool. I am really struggling with balance in my life, and I’m trying to get everything running smoothly again.
Sometimes, I get overwhelmed and I have trouble dealing with particular situations. I’m trying to arm myself with the tools I need to smooth things out and make my days run better.
So many of us are separated from our families. We don’t have daily access to our parents, aunts and grandmothers who raised children before us. We don’t have someone we can turn to and say, “Take the kids for a few hours. I need a break.”
So we have to look for other ways to cope. What we need to do doesn’t always come intuitively. Sometimes a little coaching helps.
I was recently introduced to a parenting coach that I connected with – Rachel Sklar, the founder of ViaParenting. I had the opportunity to review her Rock Your Inner Mama CD with the intention of gaining some tools to help me cope with some of my more challenging day and difficult situations.
I’ll be honest, I went into it with some skepticism. What is she going to tell me that I haven’t heard before?
The truth? She doesn’t tell you what to do – she guides you on how to make the decision that’s right for you. That was a refreshing change.
Instead of saying, “When X happens, do Y,” she helps you visualize how you should deal with the situation, depending upon who you are and who your child is. I really like her approach because it feels more natural to me.
The CD has 9 tracks on it:
- Rock Your Inner Mama (for inspiration)
- Morning Practice (to start your day)
- Evening Reflections (after a long day)
- Inner Wisdom (for problems to solve)
- Setting Your Intention (to kick off your week)
- Sleeping Child (to tune into your love for your child)
- Me Time (to give yourself a treat)
As you can see, each track has a purpose and you don’t have to listen to the whole CD every time you’re facing a challenge. There are different tracks for different occasions.
Rachel’s voice is very soothing and I enjoyed listening to the CD. I actually almost fell asleep listening to it, which isn’t the worst thing since I haven’t been sleeping well!
I have the tracks loaded onto my computer now so that I can access them any time I’m feeling stressed in my parenting so I can bring myself back to center.
If you’re a mom who wants to bring yourself more intentionally into your parenting each day, check out Rock Your Inner Mama.
