Music is a huge part of our household. The girls have been exposed to music their entire life. Even when they were growing in my belly, Brian would play the guitar and sing them songs.
So it’s only natural that they would have developed a love of music from a very early age. Each of the girls have their own guitar and djembe hand drum, Zoë has a full size keyboard and Kaylee has a drum kit. That’s not even getting into all of Brian’s music equipment.
I feel very fortunate that they’ve had such a great exposure to music from the beginning as music wasn’t a huge part of my household growing up. According to PBS Kids, research has found that learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably use in other areas. Learning music has some pretty amazing benefits. You should really check out this article to learn more about why you should expose your children to music.
Since the girls love music so much, they also love movies that incorporate music. Anytime Netflix gets a new kids movie for streaming, we check it out pretty quickly (and again and again if they like it).
Since school is about to be out for the summer, I’m trying to put together a list of fun things to keep the girls busy. Musical movies will be great for quiet time after they’ve expended all of their energy playing outside.
For Kaylee, here are some age appropriate musicals:
- The Prince of Egypt
- Leap Frog: Numberland
Zoë has decided she’s past the cartoon phase, so here are some musicals for her age group:
- Shrek the Musical
- High School Musical
- Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
- The Phantom of the Opera
- Camp Rock
