I’ve been getting a lot more questions lately about how our family makes money online, so I will be sharing a lot more tips with you here in this section moving forward! We’ll also have videos talking about what we’re doing with our online business too!
Most of that information will be coming from my husband through his video series (I hear him recording episode 1 right now!). You’ll want to make sure you’re following CrazyDadSpeaks across all social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, Snapchat and any other social media channel that pops up!) so you don’t miss any of the great content he’ll be putting out there.
I will be writing many of the blog posts like this one, because I love writing! However, moving forward, you’ll see a lot more video content from me as well.
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you can get a taste for the type of content I’ll be putting out. If you’ve been wanting to make a change in your life, I hope my content inspires you to make that change for the better.
I’m really excited to bring all of this new information to you. It’s been a long time in the works, and you’ll want to watch our videos if you want the whole back story. We have a very interesting back story.
Today, I’m going to be talking about the best host for blogs of all sizes.
When we first started Happy Mothering, it was on a TypePad account (that alone tells you how long I’ve been blogging!), so I didn’t need to worry about hosting. After we saw the potential in Happy Mothering as a business, we moved over to WordPress and got set up with Bluehost.
Unfortunately, as my site grew and Bluehost was sold to EIG, the service was no longer a good fit for where we were with our business. I moved over to WPEngine for a while. I liked the service, but the cost kept going up and up and up!
So I decided to switch over to BlackChicken, which came highly recommended from many of my blogging friends. I had great service with them for a couple of years before the company changed hands – then it was time to move on again.
I moved Happy Mothering over to AcceleratedWP and I haven’t looked back. Joe helped me get set up to be a secure website (https in the address instead of http). It’s something that Google prefers, so if you want to show up in the search engines, you want to be secure! It was so nice to have a professional do that!
They’ve also run scans on my site when I saw some unusual activity going on and helped me implement a firewall to keep the fishy traffic out. Every time I’ve needed support, I’ve gotten it right away.
I’m on a VPS (virtual private server). I’m not a shared server with lots of websites on one server like most providers offer. I have CDN enabled (Cloud Delivery Network – it helps your content load faster). So I definitely don’t have their cheapest plan.
It’s more expensive than being on a shared server, but you get a lot more reliability and support! If you have a lot of traffic, or you see your website headed in that direction, I highly recommend AcceleratedWP. They’re the best host I’ve worked with!
Need the Best Host on a Smaller Budget?
My sites have not gone down as far as we know, they load quickly and it’s pretty easy to navigate the SiteGround dashboard. Their support has also been responsive when we need it.
We recommend Siteground as the best host for smaller blogs and websites.
Need the Most Affordable Hosting Service?
While Happy Mothering is no longer with Bluehost, we know how tempting that low price point can be when you’re first starting out! If you haven’t clicked over to check out how cheap Bluehost is yet, do that now.
If you’re on a really tight budget and you don’t want to wait to get started, then Bluehost may be the best option for you.
We do still have a couple of small sites hosted on our Bluehost account. We’ll be moving them all over to our Siteground hosting account in the coming months as we work to consolidate duplicate services to cut costs and be more efficient.
As you can see, we’re not afraid to switch hosts the moment our current host isn’t meeting our needs. If we decide to change hosting recommendations in the future, we’ll be sure to update this post so you always have the most accurate information and our recommendation on the best host for blogs!
Which hosting company do you use for your blogs or websites? We’d love to hear about your experiences in the comments!
