Bumps and bruises are an unfortunate side effect of living an active lifestyle. An essential part of any first aid kit is a good ice pack. We have some smaller ones in the freezer, but I’ve been wanting to get a new large one for quite some time.
So I was excited for the opportunity to try out the Thermal-Aid Adult Pack, a 100% natural heating and cooling pack. It was recently gifted to new Hollywood moms, so I figured there must be something to it!
Rather than a gel, the Thermal-Aid pack uses a specially engineered corn where the embryo/germ tip cap and outer coat from each corn kernel has been removed, leaving the cleanest and purest portion of the corn. During this process the corn hardens, allowing it to hold temperatures evenly for long periods of time. It also eliminates problems with mold, fungi and odors that are often associated with natural heating and cooling products.
It’s a large pack – 18.5” x 15” x 3” – that has 3 sections to it. It’s easy to fold without moving all of the corn beads around. But it does take up a lot of room in our freezer
The Thermal-Aid pack can be stored in the freezer for cold applications or put in the microwave for heat applications. Since we don’t have a microwave, I haven’t tested that feature.
We have used it a few times for cold applications. I like that it doesn’t get super icy cold like some packs. It makes it more kid friendly. Both girls are fine with allowing me to apply it with only a paper towel between it and their skin.
Overall, I am happy with the product, and I’m happy to have a natural, non-toxic cooling pack at the ready.
