When is the last vacation you took as a couple (yes, without the kids), even if it was just for a weekend (or even just one night)? It has been a really long time for us! Brian and I got away for one night about a year and a half ago to go to the Wine Walk in Los Angeles.
I won tickets from 100% Cork, which was such a wonderfully lovely surprise, especially since my mother-in-law was in town, and she was kind enough to watch the kids overnight. We got a hotel not too far from the event and just enjoyed one adults-only evening. I think that’s the last time we have done any sort of a getaway as a couple.
Brian just got back from being on tour for 2 ½ weeks with a reggae band he manages – so he had a “break” from the kids. And I went to BlogHer last summer, so that was my “break” from the kids. But, as a couple, we’re lucky to even get one night out once every couple of months.
There are plenty of things we’d love to do. I have always wanted to go wine tasting in Napa, but going for a Sonoma Wine Tasting weekend would also be awesome! It’s closer to us, and it’s still supposed to be an absolute blast.
We used to keep a jar of change that we were saving for a getaway, but when we went to Uruguay, we stopped doing that. Maybe I’ll have to get another big jug and label it for a weekend getaway for just the two of us.
There is also a wine cruise that goes up the coast of California once a year that I’d love to do someday. I think it’s a weeklong cruise – I’m not sure I’d want to leave the girls for that long just yet – so it’ll probably be a few years before that happens. But a girl can dream, right?
Thank you to Benziger for inspiring this post about wine tasting and couples getaways!
