During the winter, we’re cooped up so much that it’s a nice change to get out and enjoy the fresh summer air. While we do watch a fair amount of shows and movies on Netflix through the winter, we try to watch less during the summer months. The kids are encouraged to play outside for most of the day.
Netflix is usually turned on during breakfast or lunchtime, then again while I’m cooking dinner. I’ve found it’s the easiest way to get some peace while I prepare our meal.
My husband is on the road a lot touring with different reggae bands. When he’s out of town, I try to plan special activities for the girls to make sure they aren’t left with too much downtime to miss their daddy, especially in the evenings.
They sure do love their Daddy!
One thing we do is have movie night. Netflix usually has a great selection of family movies and we cook something fun to eat in a picnic on a blanket in the living room. Or if we do it after dinner, I pop up some popcorn and we have that as a fun treat.
Here they are watching a movie before bed:
The girls have a blast with movie nights and so do I. If you haven’t checked out Netflix yet, you’re missing out! Did you know that a one-year Netflix subscription costs less than taking a family of five on two trips to the movie theater – and that’s withoutpopcorn. Netflix delivers big entertainment without breaking the bank ($7.99/month).
They have recently launched www.Netflix.com/Families, which has curated lists such as Family Movie Night, Quiet Time, Getting Ready for Pre-school, Are We There Yet and TV for Curious Kids. This page is accessible to non-members and members! I love the simplicity of choosing the right movie for our movie night or the right program when I’m trying to get them to settle down.
We watch Netflix through our PS3, but you can also watch it on smartphones, tablets, laptops, Smart TVs, Microsoft Xbox and Nintendo Wii. It’s super convenient for most people to access Netflix these days.
