The weather is finally starting to resemble summer, and trips with the family that you may be making for weddings or other occasions are starting to be more appealing. Now the sun is out you see you are not confined to your hotel room and can venture out and discover some activities. For those visiting Birmingham for any reason in the next few months, here are a few fun outdoor attractions you may like to visit. If you haven’t found accommodation yet there is still time to find great value family rooms in Birmingham that suit your needs and budget.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens
This is a great day out for nature lovers, and it is especially enjoyable in good weather. There is plenty here to hold the interest of younger visitors and plenty to see for the adults. Follow trails round the gardens exploring wildlife and plants of different climates. As you pass through the glass houses you can experience desert and rainforest conditions within seconds of each other and learn hands on with the Children’s Discovery Garden. Outside you will find more stunning botanicals a Tarzan Trail, playground and bamboo maze.
Birmingham Nature Centre
Two miles from the city centre, the Birmingham Nature centre is a great place to take the family. There are meerkats, lemurs and otters amongst other animals including endangered reptiles. The centre is moving towards a more conservationist stance including captive breeding programs, which means plenty of unusual baby animals for you to see. There are a great variety of animals to see here from mice to monkeys and kids will love learning about different species.
Canon Hill Park
A green flag park in the city of Birmingham, Canon Hill is not just another open space. There are loads of things to do here including 5 tennis courts, a bowling green, mini golf and a mini funfair which is open at the weekends. During the summer you can take a pedalo on the lake soaking up the sunshine as you skim the water. The park has not one, but two children’s play areas with a nice walk between the two. Plan it right and you might be able to wear them out enough for a lie in the next morning!
Grand Prix Karting
This Birmingham outdoor go karting track is renowned across the UK for its high quality equipment and raceways. For youngsters there is a special junior track for the over 8s and so the emphasis is on having fun rather than training. Drivers are given a certificate at the end of the hour session for their efforts on track. There are different sessions for 8-12s and 12 and over and the over 12s have the option for individual tutorials.
Birmingham is a diverse and exciting city with a lot going on for all the family. If you are visiting with family this summer make the most of some of the great outdoor facilities here and enjoy the Great British weather while it lasts.
