Thank you to Oreck for sponsoring this post on keeping a cleaning schedule.
Since starting a family and my businesses began to grow, I have found it a challenge to stick to a cleaning schedule that would allow me to keep a tidy home. I often don’t want people to come over because my house is too messy.
Recently, I’ve started getting more organized so that we can have people over more often and I can feel better about the space we live in.
The book, the Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up definitely helped me get back into that decluttering mentality. Less is definitely more when it comes to keeping a tidy, joyful home. Once I got back into that mentality, it was much easier to get back into the routine of keeping a more tidy house.
There are a few simple things that I try to do every day without fail. Then I try to tackle one room in the house each day. Then I try to tackle some other areas once a month. It makes it more doable to keep a relatively tidy home when following a routine like this.
I’ll share below the list of simple things I try to accomplish around the house each day. Then, you can download my free Printable Cleaning Schedule that outlines my daily, weekly and monthly tasks to help inspire you to get on a cleaning schedule that works for you and your family.
Here is the list of tasks we do daily:
Each morning when we wake, I strive for us to make the beds. Even if we just pull everything up so it doesn’t look like a toddler tossed and turned in the bed all night, it makes going to bed so much more peaceful each night.
Wash, Dry and Put Away One Load of Laundry
One thing that piles up quickly is laundry. I try to wash one load of laundry each day. That way, at the end of the week, I’m not trying to get 10 loads of laundry done in one day. If I have any extra left at the end of the week, I like to try and get that all washed on Sunday.
Pick Up Clutter
Clutter, clutter, everywhere. It’s amazing how quickly that happens, isn’t it? Each night before dinner, I try to get the girls to pick up all of the clutter in the living room and move it to their rooms. It feels so much nicer to sit down at the end of the day in a clutter free living room.
We don’t have a dishwasher, so if we don’t stay on top of dishes, they pile up fast. I try my best to wash dishes as I clean meals, and wash the dishes as they get put into the sink rather than waiting for them to pile up. It feels so great to go to bed each night with an empty sink.
Wipe All Counters
If there’s one thing that just feels gross, it’s dirty counters. I try to wipe up spills as they happen, and then give all of the counters and the stovetop a quick wipedown each day – usually after dinner.
It’s amazing how much stuff gets tracked onto the kitchen floor! I try to sweep it quickly each night after we do the dishes to pick up anything that has been tracked in. I usually only mop once a week unless we have a big spill, though.
One of the things that makes the house feel so much cleaner is vacuuming the carpet! By making it a priority to run the vacuum each day, it makes it easier to enforce the picking up clutter rule. If there’s clutter, you can’t vacuum. But if you are determined to vacuum, you also have to pick up the clutter.
Having a good vacuum is critical to keeping your carpet clean. Since we live on a dirt road, under pine trees that drop tons of pollen, we have to have a good vacuum if we want to keep our carpet clean. I recently got a new Oreck ELEVATE CONQUER™ Power Team Combo (which includes the Vacuum and Ultimate Handheld), and it makes it so easy to keep my home clean.
It offers superior filtration technology with 5 layers of HEPA Media filtration. That means it traps at least 99.97% of the tiniest of particles at 0.3 microns, including allergens, mold spores, pollen, dander, dust & smoke.
Powerful and Effective
Even though it’s a powerful vacuum, it’s not loud at all. I wasn’t sure how well it would clean because it’s so lightweight and not at all loud like I imagine powerful machines to be.
However, it’s super maneuverable so you can get every spot of your carpet. After I vacuumed with it the first time I could feel a difference in the texture of the carpet. The girls commented that they could too.
Of course, since it’s not a bagless vacuum, I couldn’t see exactly how much was vacuumed up. I have a feeling it was quite a bit of fine material that our old vacuum couldn’t pick up.
I wasn’t sure if I’d like a vacuum that uses a bag, but this one has a capacity of up to four times that of most bagless vacuums, so I can get on board with that. The SaniSeal® system automatically closes upon disposal to help lock-in dirt and debris. I love that I won’t be getting dust all over me the next time I need to empty the vacuum into the trash.
Back to how light this vacuum is – oh my gosh I was shocked. I think it’s about half the weight of my old vacuum. It’s so easy to move around that even the kids can do it. It’s a lot less awkward because all of the tools aren’t attached to it like they are with most uprights.
Kaylee loves the handheld. She cleaned the couch using my upholstery and carpet deodorizer and she did a great job!
My new Oreck Elevate vacuum and handheld system are definitely going to come in handy when helping me stick to my cleaning schedule!
