Living in a National Forest, it’s natural that I’m concerned with trees and the local environment. So I was fascinated when I read on the TreeSmart website that recycling a 2-foot stack of newspapers saves one 20-foot pine tree! I knew recycling was important, but I had no idea the numbers were that startling.
If you care about the environment as much as I do, then I’d love to introduce you to TreeSmart, an Oregon-based company that specializes in recycled school and office supplies. They offer items like recycled rolled-up newspaper pencils, colored pencils, and rulers. Most of their products are also made and/or assembled in the USA.
Watch this video for a quick overview of how TreeSmart makes their newspaper pencils.
TreeSmart even offers a fundraising program for classrooms. Basically, your child’s school collects newspapers and sends them to TreeSmart. Then TreeSmart makes them into pencils with your child’s school name imprinted on them. Then the students sell them for a profit. What a genius way to teach kids about preserving our environment while fundraising for their school!
If you have a child in school this year, I highly recommend checking out TreeSmart!
TreeSmart will be giving away a prize package as part of the Grand Prize for the Green Your School Year Giveaway Hop, which begins on August 13. Be sure to come back to enter! In the meantime, show TreeSmart some love with a comment below.
