Are you struggling to work through an emotional challenge? Learn my favorite Walk It Out practice for walking through feelings with grace.
I am a highly sensitive person. You could call me an empath.
The thing is, energy affects me. Whatever energy the people around me are putting out there, I soak it right up. And sometimes I don’t realize I’m doing it.
I was mid-way into my thirties before I realized this about myself. It totally makes sense though. I’m an introvert, and I re-charge my batteries by being alone.
When my batteries are already drained, being around other people is simply too much. If only I had discovered that sooner, I may have been able to avoid some challenges in my life.
Now that I’m older and wiser and more experienced in life, I have come up with some ways to help me process my feelings, and walk through the ones that don’t even belong to me.
It’s a practice I call “Walk It Out.”
It’s a sacred practice that I intuited and implemented in my own life. It’s pretty simple.
I leave the house on my own with my hiking backpack and I walk. I walk and I walk and I walk. I walk for as long as I need to walk until my head starts to feel clear.
The moment my head starts to feel clear and clear thoughts start coming to me, I sit down and do a stream of consciousness writing until my head doesn’t feel clear anymore.
If you’re not familiar with stream of consciousness writing, you essentially sit down with a pen and paper and write whatever comes to mind. Anything that pops in your head you write it down and keep writing. Just let the thoughts flow onto the paper and out of your head.
As soon as the thoughts stop flowing, I stand up and start walking again. I keep walking until I feel clear again, then I sit down and write again.
I keep doing this over and over and over for as long as I feel called to. It could take 2 hours or it could take 8 hours. It all depends on what I’m working through.
It doesn’t matter how long I walk for, it always works. I’m always able to Walk It Out, no matter how hard the challenge is I’m facing.
A lot of the quotes and sayings I put up on Instagram are things I wrote during my Walk It Out practice. It’s amazing how clear I can get when I practice self care.
