Are you looking for affordable fall craft ideas? You can pick up all the supplies you need for this cute thumbtack pumpkin at many dollar stores! It’s a fun activity for kids and adults.
Pumpkins are back in full effect! Chilly fall weather has arrived and the bins of pumpkins line the front of the grocery store. Every year, I fall more and more in love with fall (pun totally intended). I have been on the hunt for some more fall craft ideas since the fall bug has hit me.
Somehow I craft way more during fall and winter than I do during spring and summer. It seems to stave off cabin fever a bit. Although I am hoping for a long, wet winter – we sure could use lots of precipitation in California!
Up in our mountain town, we don’t have a lot of shopping options, but we do have a Dollar Tree. I love frequenting the Dollar Tree with my girls. They blow through craft supplies like there’s no tomorrow, so having an affordable place to pick up craft supplies for them to tinker with is awesome. We get new fall craft ideas in there every time we walk in the door this time of year.
The Dollar Tree has these cute styrofoam pumpkins right now that are adorable all on their own. But they’re even cuter dressed up! You can use thumbtacks to give your otherwise plain pumpkin a simply elegant look. Even older kids can participate in this fall craft (probably not safe to let the little ones play with thumbtacks).
If you’re looking for affordable fall craft ideas, give this simply elegant thumbtack pumpkin craft a try! If you don’t have a dollar store nearby, you can always order supplies on Amazon (links provided in tutorial below).

- Press the thumbtacks into your pumpkin. You can do any design that you would like. I arranged my thumbtacks to achieve a polka-dot look. The possibilities are pretty limitless. It's a great opportunity to use your imagination.
- Using a Q-tip, lightly paint the glitter glue over the top of each of the thumbtacks.
- That’s it - easy peasy! Just let the glitter glue dry and you have a simply elegant fall decoration that was super affordable to make.
