If you’re a regular reader of Happy Mothering, you’ll know that I’ve been getting sicker and sicker over the last few months. I was in the hospital last week, and was released without a diagnosis.
I’m home now resting, and tracking my symptoms for the doctor. So I was really happy that Vital Scout had sent me their wellness monitor so that I can keep tracking my vitals.
Unlike the monitor that I’d worn on my wrist in the past, this one is applied to your chest and uses medical-grade ECG sensors to continuously and comprehensively monitor your stress, recovery, sleep and activity levels. It gives you hourly, daily and weekly details.
I love having all of that information tracked for me without having to think about it. It’s perfect for someone who is super busy or forgetful because it’s all done automatically as long as you keep the battery charged.
It’s super easy to charge too. Just plug it into any USB compatible charger (I often just plug it into my computer while I work) and the charge will usually last for a few days. The light turns green when it’s fully charged.
When it’s charged, you follow the easy included instructions for applying the patch to your chest. It stays on very well, although I wish you could shower with it on!
It’s super thin and flexible, so I don’t really even notice it once it’s applied.
You use the free app on your phone to check in on all of your wellness stats. Here are some of the reports that are included with Vital Scout.
I’m very curious to watch what the sleep quality score does over time as it gets to know my habits.
I’m also very interested in this report to see how my body is recovering from the stress of being sick. It may give me some personal insight into whether what we’re doing on different days is helping or hurting.
I also love this report because I can see at what times during the day my body feels more stress and see if it correlates to any particular activities.
This is a great report for basic vital monitoring. I love how you can see in the chart at what times of day your heart is working harder.
This is another interesting vital stat. I haven’t actually studied respiration rate and how it impacts health, so I’m excited to dig in and learn more about how this information can help us.
Here are a couple of interesting ways you can use these reports
Since Vital Scout provides historical trends with data correlations across heart and respiratory rates while connecting daily activities with physiological data, it can help you to understand how your habits affect your health. You can see in the reports how stress-reducing activities like exercise, meditation and sleep contribute to your recovery.
Having access to this information can also help you to become aware of how far you are pushing your body, and what that does to your stress levels.
It’s pretty fascinating once you start digging in to see how your lifestyle choices affect your health with the Vital Scout Wellness Monitor.
Overall, I much prefer the Vital Scout Wellness Monitor to something I have to remember to take off and put on, and charge frequently. It’s much more discreet than a watch-type monitor and it’s great for people who need help remembering things!
