If you’ve enjoyed the tips I’ve shared so far about living more sustainably, then you’ll love the Homesteading for Beginning DVD, which More Than Alive sent me to review during National Emergency Preparedness Month. The DVD is centered around the Harrison family and their life on their homestead.
They cover basic homesteading skills, including:
- Raised bed gardening, harvesting and preserving
- How to build tomato cages
- Raising chickens for meat and processing them
- Egg laying chickens
- Milking a cow
- Making butter
- Making keifer and keifer smoothies
- Making 30-minute mozzarella cheese
- Baking bread (based upon a Nourished Kitchen recipe)
- Meal preparation
Because the Harrison’s do live with modern conveniences like electricity, the tutorials are relevant for the average family. They make butter and cheese using blenders and Kitchen-Aid mixers, so it’s things we can all apply to our lives now.
I really loved how involved the 5 Harrison children were in everything on the homestead. They really seemed to take pride in contributing to the household. The cohesiveness of their family was really neat and refreshing to watch.
After watching this DVD, I want to continue learning more and more homemaking skills. Someday, I would love for us to have a homestead like the Harrisons where we can live more sustainably.
I’m looking forward to watching the second Homesteading for Beginners DVD next! If you’d like to learn any of the skills mentioned above, or are just interested in learning more about homesteading, I recommend the Homesteading for Beginners DVD.
It’s normally $20, but right now the Homesteading for Beginning DVD is on sale for $5 on the More Than Alive website!
Thank you to More Than Alive for providing the products mentioned in this posts. While I received these items free of charge, all opinions expressed are my own.
