I have always maintained a very strong focus on education, and that is no different now that I’m a mother. I love providing my girls with the best educational toys available. As a work at home mom and direct seller myself, I was familiar with Discovery Toys, but had never had a chance to try one of their toys.
So when I was presented with an opportunity to review the Discovery Toys Giant Pegboard, I was quite excited! It really reminded me of the toys we played with at my Montessori Preschool when I was a child, so maybe I was as excited for myself as my girls ☺
What is the Discovery Toys Giant Pegboard?
The Giant Pegboard is a two-sided pegboard. The pegs are easy-to-grip pegs of different colors and shapes. One side of the pegboard is great for sorting, stacking, counting and matching the colors and shapes. The other side has raised pegs (geoboard) for creating geometric designs with rubber bands (not included and not recommended for children under 3). It also includes 12 two-sided activity pattern cards, for both sides of the board, to promote skills for pre-math and pre-reading.
Every time we get a new toy, I like to make a production out of it. It seems like it makes them so much more interested in it, and more apt to play with it for a longer time. And that worked its charm with this toy. So much so that they even think it’s so special that they actually have to pick up the pieces and put it back in the box every time. Less cleaning up for me is always good. And you have to keep organized with toys like this or you’ll lose pieces.
The quality of the pegboard is good. The plastic is sturdy and it seems like it will last for quite a while, even with my girls who love to break things intentionally. However, all Discovery Toys are unconditionally lifetime guaranteed. So, that’s a nice reassurance.
At 3-years old, Zoë can complete some of the educational activities included, but some of them are a little more advanced, which is great because it means that she’ll be able to play with the toy for a longer time span as she learns more and more. Kaylee is only 20 months, but she has a lot of fun putting the pegs in the holes and taking them out – it’s a good hand-eye coordination exercise for her.
Overall, I would recommend the Discovery Toys Giant Pegboard for anyone looking to purchase more educational toys for their children, or as a gift for a child.
