With Halloween right around the corner, you’re probably seeing posts everywhere about healthier Halloween treat ideas. You don’t have to hand out apple slices or nuts to make healthier choices this Halloween.
There is one company making candy that is very similar to what we’re used to, but with healthier ingredients – Unreal. One of my favorite candies to get on Halloween as a child were Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups.
Unfortunately, today they contain some questionable ingredients:
The sugar, dextrose and soy lecithin are most likely from GMOs. And TBHQ, or Tertiary Butylhydroquinone, is a chemical preservative that is a form of butane. While the FDA does consider it safe for use in food, they set limits for how much can be used. If it’s completely safe, why are there limits? We choose to avoid TBHQ.
In comparison, here are the ingredients in Unreal Peanut Butter Cups:
Milk Chocolate (Cane Sugar, Chocolate, Cocoa Butter, Milk Powder, Organic Blue Agave Inulin, Skim Milk Powder, Soy Lecithin, Vanilla Extract), Peanut Butter (Dry Roasted Peanuts, Icing Sugar, Palm Kernal Oil, Salt), Cane Sugar, Organic Palm Kernel Oil, Peanut Flour, Organic Blue Agave Inulin, Whey Protein Isolate, Salt, Soy Lecithin.
In addition, they use sustainable palm oil, traceable cacao, grass-fed dairy and absolutely no GMOs, corn syrup or gluten.
Now I know that these ingredients aren’t healthy, but they are much better than what you find in Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups. So, if you are going to hand out candy this Halloween, consider choosing Unreal candy.
They also have healthier versions of Snickers, Milky Way, M&Ms and Peanut M&Ms. Buy them here.
