Thank you to Butter Bell for providing the product mentioned in this post.
A modern version of the original French butter crock, the Original Butter Bell crock allows butter to be kept at room temperature, on the counter or tabletop, for up to 30 days without spoilage, refrigeration or odors. Made from New Bone China, the highest quality ceramics available, the Butter Bell crock ensures that under reasonable, correct usage, butter can be stored for up to 30 days. Most Butter Bell users consume a crock’s worth of butter within one week.
The Butter Bell crock measures 4.25″ x 3.78″ and holds up to one full stick (1/2 cup) of butter. Softened butter is packed firmly into the bell-shaped cup of the lid. Cold water is poured into the base of the crock. The lid is then placed upside down back into the base of the crock. Soft, spreadable butter may be enjoyed and served right from the crock. We do a lot of cooking from scratch and we tend to go through a lot of butter. But, it seems like I am always letting butter sit at room temperature (or tossing it in the microwave for a few seconds to quickly soften it) when I go to bake or make grilled cheese sandwiches.
I had never heard of Butter Bell crocks before, so I was really interested to see how they worked. I was skeptical that I could actually safely leave my butter out, but after reading all of the company’s information I feel comfortable doing so.
I received a Classic Butter Bell Crock in the Signature Hand Painted Raised Floral pattern. It is made of high quality New Bone China and has the French word for butter “beurre” on one side and the English word “butter” on the other side. Given that it’s hand painted, I was happy to read that it’s even dishwasher safe.
It works exactly as described and it’s so much more convenient than softening butter every time I need a little. I will definitely be using it to store a stick of butter on the counter from now on.
