I took French for 4 years in high school, and for 1 semester in college. I always wanted to take a trip to France to practice my skills, but I never got around to it, and most of my French has been lost.
We spent just over a year in Uruguay, and I picked up a lot of Spanish, which further pushed French to the back of my memory, but I’d still love to visit France someday. I’d love to spend some time in the French Riviera, and no trip to France is complete without a visit to Paris.
I’m probably not going to get to go anytime soon, but a girl can dream, right? That’s what I love about Gogobot, a social travel site that launched in 2010. The company has been named one of Time’s top sites of 2011 and winner of the 2010 Crunchie award for Best Design. How did I not hear about it before now?
Gogobot’s big win is that it allows you to connect with your friends to get their advice on where to visit, what to eat and where to stay when you travel. You can use the service to plan things ahead of time, or you can poll your friends on the fly.
I decided to use the site to plan a dream trip to Paris. When you create your trip you can either specify dates or say you don’t know exactly when you’re going.
I have a tendency to always look for hotels first. You can even check rates for your dates directly from the Gogogot website. The Hotel Paris Athenee looks amazing!
I love how central it is to the major attractions. Listen to this description:
“Romance and luxury live at this elegant property ideally situated between the Eiffel Tower and the Avenue des Champs Elysees. The suites offer memorable views of Avenue Montaigne, the peaceful Cour Jardin, the rooftops of Montmartre, or a side views of the Eiffel Tower.”
After that, I like to make a “must see” list. Some items that would be on my Paris list are:
- Eiffel Tower
- Louvre Museum
- Notre Dame Cathedral
- Arc de Triomphe
- Avenue des Champs-Elysees
I don’t necessarily like to plan where I’m going to eat when I’m traveling. I like to take a long stroll down the street and see what catches my attention. I can only imagine that would be an awesome experience in Paris.
However, if you like to have a detailed trip plan, you can read reviews of restaurants and add the ones you’d like to dine at to your Gogobot travel plans. My gluten free diet would definitely limit some of the meals I could have in Paris!
This hot chocolate from Angelina is supposed to be amazing!
And the steak at Le Relais de l’Entrecôte is supposed to be awesome as well!
I’ve had fun imagining my dream trip to Paris thanks to Gogobot.
Gogobot allows you to tap into the knowledge of your friends when planning a trip anywhere. You can find like-minded travelers and inspiration for your next vacation, creating easy-to-use wishlists you can return to again and again.
And when you are not in vacation mode or planning a trip, you can discover hidden gems in your own neighborhood for entertaining guests or a weekend staycation.
The best part? Every page on Gogobot is personalized. You can see reviews from your friends and people you are following at the top, which allows you to weed out the noise and fraudulent reviews that become a problem on other review sites.
