Music is life. Not a day goes by that music isn't played in our home. And I'm not sure we'd have very happy family members without their music!
I know not all families have music integrated into their lives in the way we do. And that's okay. Even if you're not musically inclined yourself, it's a great idea to encourage your child to explore their love of music.
It has been shown that exposure to music during the early childhood years can enhance the learning process for children. Music can promote language development, creativity, coordination and social interaction.
Fortunately, technology has made it so that we no longer have to drag our children from music class to music class if that doesn't work with our schedule or lifestyle. You can now take quality music lessons online!
We started exploring the Fender Play program to help our daughters learn to play guitar like Daddy over the summer and really liked it.
We chose guitar lessons not only because Daddy plays the guitar, but because kids who learn to play guitar do well socially. They’re more confident, develop coordination and math skills, concentration and more. It's a great skill that benefits multiple areas of development, which I love.
Not 3 weeks after I shared our initial experience with Fender Play, our oldest daughter broke her arm (on our 10-year wedding anniversary no less). So we had a break in online guitar lessons while she healed up.
Now that we're finally getting settled into our new house (we still have more unpacking to do) and getting into a routine, we can get back on top of the online guitar lessons through Fender Play.
If you haven't heard of Fender Play before, it's a guided online learning program that teaches new guitar players how to start playing in mere minutes. Fender Play features hundreds of instructional videos and hands-on exercises to walk new players down a learning path based on their musical preferences.
The curriculum is designed in a way that allows players to be able to learn something new after a few short lessons. It could be anything such as a skill, a recognizable riff or a full song.
The Fender Play curriculum, which was designed by curriculum experts and Fender (the leading guitar brand), is song-based. It can help you learn to play the songs you love by breaking the song down to the basics first.
The online guitar lessons program from Fender Play is designed really well too. It incorporates top-quality 4K multi-camera video production to deliver a clear and unified curriculum. The system features a split-screen and an over-the-shoulder angle. It's really helpful for new players to have the right perspective.
I love that each of the guitar lessons (at least the ones we've gone through so far) are short. So they're perfect for newbies who haven't built calluses up on their fingers yet!
We have the computer set up so each day, the girls can spend 5-10 minutes each going through one of the lessons. As they progress in their skill level, I can see each of them sitting for longer periods of time to learn to play guitar online.
