I have always been a huge board game fan. Sitting down and playing a board game with the family brings back fond memories of my own childhood.
My girls have inherited my love for board games, but my husband isn’t a huge fan. I’ve been searching for a board game for a while now that I could get him on board with playing (pun intended).
I recently stumbled upon Escape Room, a game that’s targeted at people that are ages 16+. Unlike most board games, it’s a cooperative game rather than a competitive one. So you have to work together to solve the puzzles, and either everyone wins or no one wins.
There are four different game scenarios included with Escape Room:
Temple of the Aztec
You are supposed to play them in order because they increase in difficulty. Unlike most board games, you really only play each of these games once since they are 4 distinct scenarios.
You have 60 minutes to work together and find the hidden clues and solve the puzzles to escape from whichever room you’re trapped in.
To escape from the room, you have to enter the correct 4-key combination into the Chrono Decoder. If you enter the wrong combination it takes away a minute of your time, so use it wisely.
After you’ve played the game, you can download and print the pieces you used, and pass the game onto a friend you think would enjoy playing it. I like that idea of passing it along so the box doesn’t collect dust in the closet once you’ve played through all four scenarios.
We’ve been having a lot of get togethers with friends recently, and I thought this would be the perfect game for one of those occasions. You need at least 3 people to play, so it’s a great holiday party game.
I love how it brings everyone together and you really have to work together to solve the puzzles. It allows you to combine your knowledge and talents to solve the puzzle and escape together.
When you play, I definitely recommend taking as many notes as you can so you can piece together the answer to the puzzles. You may also want to use the flashlight and calculator on your phone, so keep that handy.
And the Chrono Decorder already plays some music to make the game more suspenseful. However, you can download the free Escape Room app on your iPhone or Android phone for more thematic background music and to share a photo of your team when you escape each scenario.
If you’ve been looking for a great game to play with friends at a holiday party this year, pick up Escape Room. It’s sure to thrill! Click here to purchase Escape Room.
