My girls aren’t babies anymore. They’re 6 and 8. It’s hard to believe how big they’ve gotten and how fast time has gone by.

I’ve been keeping a big tub of their baby clothes in the top of their closet. I’m not someone to keep a bunch of stuff that can’t be used, so I’ve always planned to turn them into a memory quilt.

I kept telling myself I’d find the time to learn to quilt one day and do it myself. The problem is, life seems to get busier and busier and busier. Trying to find the time to learn a new skill seems nearly impossible.

Then one day I learned about The Patchwork Bear, a small company based in Princeton, NJ that will turn those baby clothes you’ve been storing into a beautiful memory quilt. I decided it was better to have someone skilled do it rather than experimenting on my own.

Since they were kind enough to make the quilts for us at no charge so we could share their amazing work with you, I decided to send all of my favorite baby clothes into them to have 2 quilts made.

Let me tell you. That was one of the most nerve racking things for me to do.

What if the Post Office lost the package? What if they screwed up and ruined all of the baby clothes? What if there was a mistake and the baby clothes were gone forever? Those just aren’t something that can ever be replaced.

After sending the box in, I sat and patiently waited for our memory quilts to arrive. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous about the whole idea!

Then the package arrived. I opened the box and immediately tears started pouring out of my eyes. They were happy tears!

The two memory quilts made from my daughters’ baby clothes were breathtaking. They were so much more beautiful than I ever could have imagined they would be. I’m crying sitting here writing about them!

I called my husband in to see the memory quilts and we started looking at each of the patches and reminiscing about when our girls were babies. Then we had a nice little cry together.

These two memory quilts are probably the most special thing I have to remember the brief time they were babies. The touch and feel of the clothes brings back so many fond memories.

I pondered whether to give them to the girls now or save them. We decided we’ll put them up and save them until the girls are grown and are having their first baby. They will be gifts given to them at that time.

Whether I give them to them right when we find out they’re expecting or at their baby shower is yet to be determined. Either way, I’m excited to one day give these memory quilts as special gifts to my daughters.

Thank you so much to The Patchwork Bear for doing such an amazing job on these baby clothes memory quilts! You have given our family a memento we will always treasure deeply.
