I love finding ways to enjoy the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils in our home. I’ll show you how to make a simple DIY Himalayan Salt Diffuser in 5 minutes so you can too.
I have so many essential oils. Like I seriously have a few hundred bottles. It’s crazy! When you’re part of a network marketing company and you reach a certain level, you somehow end up with a stockpile of oils.
Then you leave that company and you buy lots of other oils to find another brand you like. So you end up with scores and scores of oil.
I’m not complaining. It’s super nice to be able to walk in my office and grab pretty much any essential oil I might need on demand.
That said, I do want to make sure to find good ways to use them before they expire (citrus oils typically expire the fastest). I love my essential oil diffusers, but they can be noisy and it’s easy to forget to fill (and regularly clean) them.
A few years ago, a friend recommended I put eucalyptus oil and sea salt in a bowl by my bedside. I really liked how it worked, so I kept doing it.
I typically use coarse Himalayan sea salt for my simple salt diffusers. It’s what we use in our salt grinder and I use it in DIY beauty products, which is why I buy in bulk, so I always have it on hand. I also love the pretty pink color! You can use other types of sea salt as well.
The Himalayan Salt Diffuser pictured has lavender and frankincense in it. You can use whatever scent combination you like, though.
If you need help choosing an essential oil combination, here are a few we like:
- Lavender and frankincense
- Eucalyptus and lemon
- Lavender, orange and peppermint
- Rosemary and peppermint
- Sandalwood and frankincense
If you use a wax warmer, you can put the salts on there as well. The heat will break down some of the properties of the oils, but it’s better than using synthetic candles or warmer tarts.
If you love wax warmers, I have two recipes to make your own if you haven’t tried that!
It’s so easy to make many of the things we buy, and for a much better price. Not to mention we get to be in charge of what goes into things when we make them!
How to Make a Himalayan Salt Diffuser
- Add Himalayan sea salt to your bowl of choice.
- Add several drops of essential oil to the salt and stir to evenly coat the salt crystals.
- Stir the salts daily to keep the scent fresh.
- Every few days, add a few more drops of essential oils.
Once you’re done withe the scent combination, you can dispose of the salts. Instead of tossing them, I like to re-use them in my fizzy bath salts recipe when you’re done with that scent. You can also toss them in bath sachets!
I hope you enjoy your DIY Himalayan Salt Diffuser as much as I do!
